Hanging from the bumper?

I came out to find this hanging from the front bumper of my 2001 E39. Any idea what this is?

Looks like outside air temp sensor; if it's anything like e36's it probably clips into the brake duct. FWIW you can grab the part number off it and plug it in over on realoem.com to find out in the future.

And it hanging probably means that the under panel has been damaged (or is now missing).

in the e36 they go in the brake ducts
