Hi OT,

Wondering if I can bend your ear on a weekend-car I'm looking at. If you are able to read through the entire thing, and give me some feedback, I'll donate $40 to sickkids in OT's name at the end of the day. This will be my first e36, and I'm hoping some of the more knowledgeable members can scan the descriptions and point out any holes/issues I should take a closer look at.
Won't be buying with the RS's, and the current asking price is half that in the ad.

- the new cooling system components were replaced in the past year
- window switches were replaced
- softop is manual-only, no rips or tears
- cracked foglights
- minimal wear on the driver bolster
- clean underbody, no obvious rust despite being a Toronto car
- no rust
- no leaks

I'm sure all of you seen this car for sale. Sad to do it but i need money, going to Euro2012 and it's not cheap. Considering trades for a 600cc sport bike.

Aye

Pretty much sums up my thoughts...

Run away. Because vert.

I'd usually put up a sad face for this comment but Sparky's right. If you want an M3 go with a Sedan or Coupe. That is, if you want it for a little more get up and go. Verts are very noisy in the cabin, especially for a DD. I hated my vert almost as much as I loved it. I had a hard top for it and honestly it stayed on about 90% of the time since I got it. If it were a spare car or weekend car it would have been great, but having it as a daily wasn't so fun. Just my 2 cents.

It's no E30.

He's asking a lot of money for a non M3 that had body work. Also he didn't give you a reason for the body work.

Other then that it seems like an okay car. Have a PPI performed at a dealership.

"windshield replaced and car repainted" sounds sketchy...

Those might be the ugliest BBS wheels I have seen. That is unless you're going for the teenage slammed look.....which only appeals to that crowd.

$15k is a bit on the high side for a well taken care of M3. There are several examples if +400 hp turbo M3's for $15k or less.....so a 325 with an M3 for that much seems extremely high. If you're going to pay that much, get a real M3 or even a decent E46 M3.

It's a well taken care of car....but I will be surprised if he gets $8k for it.

I would offer him $7k and if he doesn't drop the price down to ten grand, just walk away because it will be another swapped E36 owner that is far too proud of his money pit.

I would not pay that much for a 'fake' M3 although everythings there. However, it looks good maintenance-wise.

FWIW, the price is currently just under $7k, in maple syrup money. Which is in line with what people are asking in the States--a situation that doesn't really happen often, which is why I'm skeptical and trying to see if I'm missing something obvious

$7k in maple syrup money is $7k plus a tank of gas in 'murricah.

He says the price is half of what's listed.

It has good mods. Have a PPI done at the best BMW shop you can find. Let them know of the swap and anything major that was done.

Would be better if it came with a hardtop, but if you love the car, $7.5k isn't bad.

I'd much rather go for something more along the lines of that. No swapped car will ever be the same as a true M.

My thoughts too, leading to 2 scenarios. a) needs money, parted turbo parts and now selling car. b) blew something and quick fixed it to sell the car.

Duly noted, but I would be able to buy the car in the OP twice for the price of that 71k miles m3.

And to be clear, I won't be tracking this car (only local cruises, and Sunday drives). Those duties will be handled by a bike with Ohlin's, or something on Ohlins/Motons.

That is not even close to true. At the end of the day depending on the amount of work done to the E36, the M3 just becomes a badge.

I wanted it to be left in OT.... no good reason. (also didn't know which section these are supposed to go)

When determining which subforum to put a BMW-themed thread, it's best to first rule out the only subforum for non BMW content.
