Picked up a new work truck yesterday. Finally going to retire "Big Red", 354,400 miles. She was going downhill real fast. Kind of a sad day yesterday. : (

Here's a recent pic. I kept her up like I do everything else. I got a kick telling people how many miles it had over the years. : )

Nice new truck Jason.

What happened to the big RED?

Nothing at all, just time to turn it before it wasn't worth anything to anyone else. That truck has been my buddy for a long time, well, 7 years, got when it was a couple years old. People that know what I do, I do a minimum of 200 miles a day and get into the craziest (terrain) places going to job sites. I have probably over 100k miles just pulling trailer. Big Red has been amazing!

Sad day for big red, but now you get to have new memories in a new truck. That truck looks pretty sweet though. What year was big red and what year is the new f350?

Oh yes, gonna outfit it the same, 100 gallon fuel tank "L" shaped with Protech tool box behind it. Going to play around with the motor/computer, etc. Wheels/tires, hmmmm, have to see.

"Big Red", 2003. "Whitey Ford", 2012, production date 10/12 (you know how we do). : ),

Pictures of it at work?

Very jealous. I wish I had a good reason to get one.

Have an 86 F350. Want to get rid of it, but the damned 300/6 just won't quit lol. 97k miles on it.

I sold my L8000 this month. Going to hold on to the cash until I run into a clean pre-98 7.3 quad cab.

I can dig up some pics. I'll do that tomorrow. Good choice on the 7.3L. We have (10) of those, rock solid! We have (7) 6.0L, like "Big Red".

Have to. We work the entire state of Oregon, lots of Washington. When I ran 100+ guys for (6) years, I did about 50-55k miles a year.

Thanks Michael! That was the goal! This one will be the same.

FORD TRUCK nothing but the best. I still have my 99 Ford Explorer that I drove back and forth to Oregon (Rogue River) and Los Angeles and it drove like a dream and still is. She is close to 200,000k. She is reliable as ever.

a 300 6? You're about 500K miles away from that engine ever going bad.

I think most E38 owners seem to have a truck in the wings somewhere. I've got a '95 Jeep Cherokee - an XJ - that we've owned since day one. On its second motor, but the current motor's done about 200,000kms while the chassis' done 278,000 - seen better days but I'm restoring it gradually.

When the 7's too big for the task, the traffic's too unfriendly, or it just plain doesn't want to be driven - the Jeep is always ready and willing. Tough little thing :)

How is a sedan 'too big for the task' compared to an suv? And aren't cars usually easier to drive in traffic than trucks/suv's? Although I do understand the doesn't want to be driven part lol...

+1 I picked up a '98 Explorer Sport for winter duties this year, for $700 off of Craigslist, found a set of 31" tires on CL aswell, bought a lift kit, and I am good to go! :redspot

Thanks! May sound weird, but as anal I was with the appearance and maintenance with Big Red, I just hope the "next" guy will keep it up. You know, like when I see it in a couple years that it's not thrashed. Probably wishful thinking. :)'

Most cars in Australia aren't that big really, and the 7 is massive by comparison to most. Our car parks are awful, our driving lanes are too thin and I truly fear for my 7 whenever I have to take it into city traffic! As far as being easy to drive though, the Jeep knocks the 7 out of the park. Remember, it's an XJ, a Cherokee - a small SUV. I can flog that XJ around town twice as fast as the 7 with absolutely no fears of getting stuck or not finding a park etc etc... The Jeep's just more of a city car than the 7 in this backwards country ahahahaha

And it's getting a real good run over Christmas since, surprise, the 7 isn't running :D

No, for $7K I gave him a new set of tires IF he paid $7K for the truck. ;) We usually buy my tires in sets because of the miles I put on + the market is up and down. Gotta buy right! : ) Alex and Dima know all about that! : ),

How much better is the new truck in terms of ride quality, sound insulation and creature comforts? I sat in one at the auto show this year that had leather/suede seats and a wood dash. I felt like i was in a big car... until I looked out of the windows and realized I was above everything else. I can only image that they have refined the driving experience to a similar level?

Nice trucks Jason, I like how clean you keep your fleet.

Jason, we're about to take our white f350 for a cross country trip.
Might leave on Tuesday/Wednesday to pick up a 48' enclosed trailer in Kansas and go hauling from there.

Not confirmed yet, but I can't wait to go on a trip like that.

Thanks for the compliment! Better?, leaps and bounds from Big Red. Ride quality, way quieter, super easy controls (they all make sense where they are at), lots of storage. (3) storage compartments with locks. All leather, heated/cooled seats, wood dash, rear camera. It's a luxury truck.
