My OBC (E36 328is) beeps and switches to the "Temp" screen and flashes the "F" every time the temperature gets down to 37 or 38 degrees F. Sometimes is does it at 37, other times it happens at 38. The pic below shows that screen that pops up, it is just the standard "Temp" screen, but the "F" blinks. The car only beeps once, and it stays on the "Temp" screen with the "F" flashing for about 10 seconds, then goes back to the screen that I was previously on.

What causes this? It is not a big deal really, but it is annoying (especially now that we are in the winter months). Does anyone know why it does this or how to stop it?

Thanks!

Because that's the temperature BMW's engineers figure that ice will start forming on bridges and overpasses.

safety feature. My e46 did the same, and my MKV pops up a little snowflake on the dash display when it hits 37* same with my mom's 2012 camaro.

Just click a different readout, cons. range. whatever you want right when it shows you so it doesn't keep blinking..

Wait a while....one of these days you'll be driving and it will keep going off. Happened to me. I kept hitting cold pockets. 39F-37F DING!!! 39F-37F DING!!!! must have gone off 5 times in 5 miles. It resets itself every time the temp climbs above 38F

It's programmed to signal at 3C which is why the number seems to fluctuate in fahrenheit.

The number it triggers at doesn't fluctuate at all. What I'm saying is that I kept driving through some cold spots so the actual outside temp was going up then down up down up down and each time it dropped it would DING!!!!!

Well now I know! Thanks for the help everyone! It was driving me crazy for a while because I was messing with the OBC in the mode where you press "10" and "1000" together and then put a number and I thought I messed something up then. Good to know it is supposed to do that.
