I hope I'm not repeating anything already searchable, but couldn't find much in the FAQs or in searches around a general E36 buyers guide, suspension test, etc.

There is '95 325i convertible at a used car lot near me with 108k miles.

I've read about e36's needing suspension around 100k miles. Can anyone give some tips for testing the suspension? How can I determine if it's worn out? I know the old "push the rear of the car down and see how it recovers" trick but any other tips?

Also I read about the water pump with plastic impellers. Is there a way to easily determine if the water pump has been replaced, especially with the metal pump?

Anything else I should pay close attention to?

Thanks!

threads like this all over!
just drive the car and see how it takes bumps on the road. thats the best way to test the suspension. if its bumpy or makes any squeeks or noises, the shocks or bushings prolly need replacing

Ideally, pay a technician to do the inspection. It may cost you a little money now but it can potentially save you a lot of headaches or bring to light an issue with the car that you would have overlooked or that the owner doesn't even know about.

agreed. get a pre-purchase inspection. that $100 could save you thousands down the road

Good idea on the inspection, thanks!

Yeah apologies if so many threads already -- having a hard time figuring out the right set of terms to search for.
