what should be a good trade in price for my car

2009 335 coupe MT with 22.5K miles
Sports package
Navigation
BMW assist
18" wheels
custom UUC exhaust
BMW powerkit
BMW SSK
Tint 35%
black kidney grills

edmunds say 24.8 ( clean condition) and KBB 28 ( very good condition)

Is 28K a fair price to expect ?

Don't trade it in, sell it.

The 'actual cash value' (ACV) of your car with will usually be determined by looking at auction values in your area. Mods tend to detract from value.

Hit send too soon...

Say the ACV of your car is 22k. Your dealer may 'show' you 25k, but that extra 3k is a discount you could get anyway.

Negotiate your purchase price and pretend you aren't trading. That way you'll know the actual price of the car you're buying.

Good luck!

Most places are going to offer you the low end of any value you find online via KBB or Black book or anywhere else...they want to squeeze as much profit as possible.
My guess is they'd offer you a grand or more under the clean KBB on a trade in.

My 2 cents

There is no way you get 28k on trade in. Even if the vehicle is in perfect condition, no dealers offer book for trade in's, the margins are not large enough for them. They will want to get closer to 25-26. They may show you 28 in writing, but they will tack the rest onto the car you purchase from them. (As I'm sure you know)

The best part for them is, in a few days they will list your vehicle at $34,999 on their lot. Good luck.

Certified vehicle with almost same specs is selling at 32k , am sure no one will buy my car at 35k

One dealer has offered trade in at 26

Right that's why I said "list". Yours will definitely be certified as well given the low mileage and nice options. Dealerships hate to roll out of bed for less than 5 grand profit on a $20,000 plus car.

So if they offered you 26, you have to assume others are going to be in the same range give your location.

You aren't in a position of strength here. I think that you should try to sell your car privately and when you do, then pull the trigger on a new one. You can get one at anytime right?

I personally would not take ANYTHING under 28k. I don't know if you get the 'tax savings', but where I live you don't pay tax on the value of you trade in. This means that your 28k becomes a more attractive 30-31k, which is a good price. So if you think that you can sell it privately for more than 32k, then go that route for a bit. Can't lose trying?

Yes we have tax savings and I am leasing new car so can't take advantage . Selling privately is not an option as there are too much hassles involved in addition to paying off loan

I always go for trade in

Then you are leaving money on the table. It is really painless to sell a vehicle and pay off a loan. Banks handle this all the time, it's not much of a hassle at all in order to make thousands more on your car.

in my experience dealers do not offer anything even close to Trade-In Value shown by the KBB.
Your best option is to sell it in private sale. Trade in is for pple who don't care about money or don't have time (and/or parking/insurance) to deal with private sale option, and dealers take advantage of this.
