I have two questions which are unrelated but figured I would put them both in one topic.

The first is I need to get my cars oil changed (1997 - 328i) I currently have 180,000 miles on the clock and was wondering which oil you guys recommend. I will be bringing the car to Valvoline (or similar) . Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The second question is regarding a M3 front bumper. I am looking to replace my stock 328i front bumper with a M3 one however Im not sure what to order. I have seen prices online range from sub $100 - $800. I am looking in the $250 range and color is not a major priority as the car needs to be repainted anyway.

Thanks for helping a noob.

Get the cheapest bumper (around $100 plus postage) and paint it yourself. If you don't screw it up, it'll look just like it should and you won't cry tears of blood if it gets smashed for some reason.

1. Use whatever you like. Some people swear by thin oil, some people swear by thick oil ... some wont use anything but synthetic, others like regular oil ... fact of the matter is, if you change it regularly, it doesn't really matter. 10w40 is a good start; adjust accordingly for temperatures and driving conditions. And please don't take the car to the quick lube places ... too many horror stories.

2. For 250, if you look on craigslist and such you can find a used OEM bumper ... that's your best bet for a quality bumper since the car is getting painted anyway.

The lube shop won't give you a choice. They'll put in 5w-30 and they will probably use 5 quarts

Nothing wrong with 5w30. That's what I run in both my m52s. :dunno

Cars with higher mileage should run heavier weight oil right? This has been my understanding.

I've heard that some quick lube shops use recycled oil too.
