View Full Version : Test 'n Tune! What'd'ja run?

Yeah, so, I officially suck. And I hate my tires. :sh1a:

Those Ecstas are squirmy as all getout.. they give absolutely no feedback as to WTF they're doing. I was dropping pressures in the damn things all day to try to get them to roll over a little bit - and by the end of the day they felt "OK" but still squirmy. I'm hoping I just have to burn some of the excess tread off of them before they'll tighten up - but I'm not holding my breath. I miss my Victoracers :(

Also - M3 steering is ridiculously slow. I was sawing at the wheel like a madman through all of those slaloms. Enough so that my power steering was groaning at the end of every run ;)

Anyway, my best clean run was a 64.7, good enough for 2nd place. You BSP guys smoked me by over four seconds!

It was a fun event. I think my best time was a 60.8xx. Did anyone check the final standings for BSP? Due to my injury :bawl from running after a cone I took off before it was posted. I think Glenn took top honors but myself, Erick and Glenn were all within .5 seconds of one another. Good job fellas!!!

John V., good job in BS, I was going to stick around and watch the afternoon runs but I could not walk / stand on my leg to well (I think I tore my calf muscle).

Thanks, I don't feel like it was a good job - there isn't much competition in BS this year, but I guess it's just the first event...

I think you took the win, Matt. The posted results showed you in first, and Glenn second. They had Eric in SM2

John Doby won street mod!!!

You all did very well, your times were fantastic!

I think I came in 5th behind 3 STis and a vette in AS, despite finally being on R-compound tires. I don't know if my Ecstas need more time to scrub in or not, but they felt a little greasy (compared to the street tires I drove on last year) even though they are shaved and heat cycled.

Oh yeah... I know what the problem is... I don't know how to drive. I think the top STi was 62.xxx. My best time was 65.750 or so.

ya.. they misclassed me from last year... but I guess that's why its a test and tune.. so they can test/tune their software too :)

I ended up 4th in BSP because they carried over a cone off a rerun.. I didnt know such a rule existed, but I guess if you knock a cone and get a rerun, it carries over to your next run... <shrug> Though I think I hit a cone AFTER I got the rerun call.. o well... test/tune, who cares.

So BSP ended up like this (not counting my carry over cone):

1) Glenn @ 60.4X
2) Matt @ 60.8X
3) Eric @ 61.0X
4) Andrej (C4 Vette) @ 62.X

And congrats to Doby... he did place 1st! Last I heard, Ron Katona (even though he was running SMFun) hit cones on all 4 of his runs.

If you guys havent registered for 4/18 DO IT NOW!!!! Registration is filling up REAL fast!!! BSP should get interesting next event as we add Lee Piccone to the mix!

Uhhhh.......which times are correct - the one that John V. saw posted, or the ones Eric listed above?

Uhhhh.......which times are correct - the one that John V. saw posted, or the ones Eric listed above?

Guess I shouldn't have said anything because those posted times are never official... I saw Eric in SM2 but it said he coned on all four runs which made his best time 61.xx +1. I don't know where the final BSP times were - I just saw that Matt was unofficially in 1st.

vjlax18
03-29-2004, 09:09 AM
What were Ron Katona's times though? He may have coned on all 4 but what were his times.

I've got soooooo much to learn this year. I plan on being able to keep up with the BSP boys by the end of the season... gotta aim high. :D

So great the season started :D

The STi was not out of the shop, so I drove a customer's Evo tuning his suspension. I loved the course, the day and the social aspects lol. Had a lot of fun.

I could not get good launches with the Evo fearing clutch burn, and it was carrying RA1s, which were quite well actually, but probably not up to par with Hoosiers.

Ended up with a 64.7 and 3rd in ESP. I think the ESP and STU classes are going to be a lot of fun for sure.

Burak got first place in AS with a 62.3 with his STi, was fun to watch him and Glenn in his M3 run through the course.

I wouldn't mind picking one of those up myself....any idea what a used one goes for and how much they are to maintain per year?

I think I saw a corner worker run after a cone on the slalom section during your last run but I do not know if it was knocked down or if they were just checking it? Regardless a 60.4 was flying!!!!

I did a quick google search and found that a used kart might be around $2500, and full blown, new, competitive karts are upwards of $14,000. Not sure about maintenance though.

lol.... everytime I have tough competition, I end up coning caus I try too hard to cut em close... looks like a lot of cones for me this year :(

Glenn, maybe they carried over a cone from a re-run like they did for me?

G.T.
03-29-2004, 11:29 AM
That has to be the most nonsensical rule ever...carrying cone penalties over from a previous run. I have a feeling they didn't expalin things correctly to you when you inquired about your time.

agree, that rule is bogus. What is the point of a re-run then if you are charged for a carry-over cone penalty

magnetic1

I agree too, but apparently its in the rules... if you hit a cone BEFORE you stop for a rerun... :pissed:

LOL, honestly, I was quite distracted as well with two customers and ton of questions to anwer. I should have noticed you, sorry.

Yea, I worked during the first heat instead of 3rd, and did not report that I did. Too many people know me by name, darn it :( As I was walking by people, 1 out of 2 kept asking me "did you work?, did you report?" LOL.

Oh, I got smoked as usual. He beat me by two seconds IIRC. Hell, I was closer to him last year.

But he is on Hoosiers this season. Dunno.

I can't help but think I should be closer to him than I am... it can't be all car... though watching his car go through the slaloms I see where I am losing my time.

yeah eric.

sell that Denali!

the money you'll save on gas alone in a year might even be enough to pay for wear/tear items on a kart!

ran a 64.0 something on some 205 toyo RA1's that sat through the winter and many heat cycles on the street! I was really suprised to have noticed such a HUGE difference with my roll bar. The rear end of the car is much more stable. I felt even more connected w/ the car and couldn't wipe the grin off my facd after my first run.

this is gonna be a good year. I think i'm gonna run DSP at council events w/ my crappy toyo's, and STX at scca events on my 8 inch wide rims. Can't decide what tires yet though.

:D

cross classing? didn't know that

Happens all the time, where do you think G Stock and H Stock cars go when they become street prepared cars?

The S2000, Z4 and Boxster are possibly being moved to AS next year, the SEB is soliciting member input and I have definitely sent my input.

I am not as concerned with getting smoked in BS this year - I knew that would happen - but more frustrated by how much slower I am going to be compared to where I was last year.
