Hello all,
I have a 2007 BMW 335i, and I am having issues with the navigation system crashing on me. And, when it crashes, it shuts down the whole computer. Car still runs, but the radio dies, etc. When I get in the car now, I take the DVD out, and the system runs just fine.
it is only when it is cold out.
Anyone have any tips for this?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like something on the Bus circuit is having an issue or interrupting communication. Could be related to the TCU, CCC, CIC, Amp or the Nav. drive itself.
More than likely it is the Nav. drive since you say removing the disc stops this condition from occurring.. I assume it's out of warranty and you haven't had it properly diagnosed by a shop?

When I bought it from a dealer this past summer, I bought an extended 4 year warranty that is supposed to cover everything in the car, and the biggest selling point was it covered any issues the computer might have. So, I am going to call them up and take it in...was thinking maybe I could just reset something. I appreciate the advice!

Which dealership up there would you take it to?

May sound dumb, but did you check your battery? These E9x's can have all sorts of electrical gremlins come out with a weak battery.

I will check on the battery as well, thanks!
I will take it to Kuni here in PDX.

Oye...I had the same issue with my 08 528xi....it took my dealership a really really REALLY long time to fix it. They replaced everything under the sun that they thought was making it cut out. CCC, TCU, battery, etc.
They could never get it to duplicate on them and the computer wasn't storing any faults.
They went to replace the CCC again and that time it stuck. My nav has not blanked or crashed in 21 months so (knock on wood) I am good.
Good luck....
They will have to update the iDrive OS system. The system updater is windows CE based, which is why it takes so long to update (3-5 hours). Also if the system updater freezes during the update, the updater has to be started from the beginning again.
When I had an E90, the radio would start and it would have this cracking sound, like someone speaking really close to a microphone. I had to go through the update, it took 3 days. lol

That's just someone lying through their teeth to you because they kept putting your car on the back burner while they used the diagnostic heads to make money..
I've seen F01's take over night, crash then program/code all day the from the following morning. But an e90? NO WAY.

I figured they were jobbing me. To add insult, they didn't even provide me with a loaner since I didn't purchase the car from that dealership. :shifty
