So my bro just got an E92 '07 328i (he literally just got it Thursday) and my dad was the first to notice his left tailight was out. Given my long history with BMW I found it weird the car didnt tell me a light was out since my 5er will trigger a warning even if the license plate light is out, but I didnt think much of it and just figured it just didnt catch it or something.

Now last night he goes to look at the car and the LED strips are out?! And here I was thinking LED's never die :rolleyes The craziest thing about it though is that I tried searching for any fixes on the forum and no-one has said anything, so I'm guessing he ended up getting the 1 car to have its LED's go out?

I found this searching online:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=PC93&mospid=49511&btnr=63_0979&hg=63&fg=20

According to that there is no way of fixing it but pretty much getting a whole new tailight assembly, and at $183 bucks it ain't cheap!

Has anyone ever had a problem with these? Anyone ever fixed one?

:help:help

My 2010 335d has a light out on the driver side trunk mounted light. It will flicker when I close the trunk so I know its just a connection to the light or inside the light. Still...from what I read, the only way to fix them is to replace them. I'm going to give a try on fixing the light anyway...the worst that could happen is that I would have to buy another light.

Can't you replace the bulbs?

Thank you. Yeop from all the reading I've done it does seem that the pre LCI (what exactly is that?) lights suffer from these issues and apparently you gotta go out and buy a whole new tailight since the LEDs can't be fixed... sucks

LCI is Life Cycle Impulse, BMW speak for model midlife facelift.

my car is an LCI model and this still happened to my LED turn signals...

luckily this happened to me when my car was still under warranty...dealer had to replace both tail light assemblies. apparently there was a design flaw on the earlier lighting assemblies with LEDs that allowed the circuitry to corrode...

i think the only way to fix is to replace the whole assembly...

Hi guys, I'm new to the 3 series but not to BMW (check my signature). I have a 2011 E92 LCI. My right tail light has a small LED that went out, brake light to be specific. I checked REALOEM.com for the part # but can't seem to find the specific small LED. I'm afraid I'm going to have to purchase the entire light assembly as stated above. Please help a new 3 series owner, I'd greatly appreciate it!

The individual LEDs inside tail lights are not intended to be replaced. The entire sealed assembly must be replaced. I have 2009 E90 (LCI) and had one of the inboard assemblies fail under warranty and one of the outer assemblies (rear brake/turn signal) fail long after warranty expired. My "bulb out" warning on the instrument cluster was inconsistent over a span of a few months when the individual LEDs were failing. Yep, it's not cheap. But it is quite simple to replace.

I got an oem quality replacement next day from Amazon for 60 bucks, you couldn't tell the difference if you tried...

Well that blows! Thanks for the response guys. DetroitDIY, you got what exactly for $60? The LED itself for the brake seems to expensive for $60 but the whole light assembly seems cheap for $60

BMW has finally acknowledged the design/production issue with the E90 LED tailights....they have a "tail light repair kit" for sedans....Part # 63214871753 which includes both tailight assemblies. GetBMWParts website sells this for $98.16 plus $16 shipping. I've had one replaced under "courtesy warranty" since my car is low mileage...I only had to pay 20% of the part cost...but $130 for installation labor @ dealer!....For 10 min work..3 nuts and a harness plug....GRRRRRRR! So I bought a kit to have on hand. Those with coupes, convertibles etc....email website to see if there are kits for your cars as well...save some bucks!!!
