due to a damn over-sized pick up turning into me!!

I just entered the interstate and was in the center lane, in congested traffic, when a over-sized-pickup alongside me in the outside lane decided to turn into my lane. He was turning into me so quickly I did not have time to hit the horn! My only evasive action was to turn hard into the inside lane (there was a car there only a second earlier) and in doing so, I lost traction and the car spun around, sliding into the concrete divider wall, passenger front corner contacted first. It bounced off the wall and was sliding backwards, facing traffic. My only choice was to force the rear into the wall and it hit hard! I slid along the wall until I stopped.

Of course the SOB did not stop!! What was even more appalling, absolutely no one stopped as a witness or to check on me! Most importantly is no one else became involved and my car did not even try to roll over. It was flat on the road. Kudo's to Bmw's handling.

The obvious damage is ALL on the passengers side. Fortunately, My wheels were sacrificed to save the body panels. The gas door flew open at impact and was bent backwards, the rear bumper, corner protection trim was scraped the front bumper cover popped off along with the center trim and right fog light. The front bumper cover and lip will have to be replaced due to scraping on the concrete. My existing wheels are out of production so I will go with these (rear wheel broke to pieces and the front has intense rash) http://i.ebayimg.com/t/17X8-Advanti-Racing-Ligero-5x120-32-Silver-Rims-Wheels-FIT-BMW-Z3-Z4-323-325-X3-/00/s/NjU5WDY4Ng==/$(KGrHqNHJF!E88evolLyBPUWZNC-rw~~60_12.JPG.

Mechanically, the rear adjustable, aluminum camber arm snapped in half and rear axle shaft, bearing case exploded due to the bottom of the wheel hitting the wall so hard (I am hoping the diff is alright....it seems to be). Fortunately, the dividers are designed with the base wider than the top. I slid along the base with the car only inches away.

If there had been vehicle contact, my insurance (Esurance/allstate) situation would have been much different but fortunately there wasn't as I am sure that guy still would have still run. I have $100 deductible on collision and comprehensive...full coverage to include up to 2k for replacement of customized parts. The adjuster will check out the damage next week. I will see then how fair Esurance is because I sure as hell will not settle for the car being totaled. Parts and paint will total 3k maximum!

WOW!!! glad it wasnt worse than you described. Pretty scarey stuff at those speeds.

Seems like there's one of these stories every week lately. I don't think i want to see pics. I just finished driving 40mph on the interstate for an hour because of snowy roads.

Show us some pics when you get it all fixed up.

Geeze, there are 2 other current posts of accidents...must be the season!

Looking at mine again, it does not seem to be that bad considering. Need to replace rear axle, one aluminum adjustable camber arm, gas lid, wheels and tires :)

Well, Esurance and I settled today. I really pays to take lots of photos of your vehicle over time and hang on to the receipts.....

Total ACV per C.C.C. was $3900.00. After sending in 12 months of receipts totaling over $11,400 and recent photos, it was bumped up to $5855.00

In summary, I am keeping the car, title unaffected and they are direct depositing $4583.21 into my bank account this evening :)

Well, that worked out okay all things considered. When doing repairs, make sure the subframe isn't bent from the axle pushing the diff over. I had an M3
with similar but worse under carriage damage. That subframe was bent. I managed to straighten it in the car with a few well placed jacks and chains.

I just found out over 90 people die in car accidents a DAY in the US. I bet some of those were in e36s maybe in NJ too.

After reading that, my car is in the garage and NEVER leaving .

Great observation. We anticipated the same and all checks out fine. The aluminum camber arm must have absorbed most of the impact before it snapped
