So lately I have had a few electrical issues in my '96 328is. I am not sure where to start, but here it goes.. So in september I had my fan explode and refreshed my whole cooling system all fancy with Mishimoto radiator and high pressure silicone hoses and also did a fan delete. For the first few days I kept a very close eye on my temp. gauge just so I know I had a proper bleeding process and everything was going smoothly. Well all of a sudden on the main blvd. down the street from my place about two days after I here "ding ding" and see the gauge sky rocket, but right as it hit top my entire dash died (only the gauges, not the obc or radio). Not knowing what just happend I immediately pulled over and turned my car off and let it sit for about 15 minutes, started fine and drove home with gauges working. This also happened again about a week later and I repeated the same steps, but decided to google and search. My car was at good operating temperature and my aux fan didn't activate either. So from what I found on the web I learned that it was signs of my alternator dying. Now here is something a little odd.. I am not sure when this started happening as I cant remember the exact date, but around that time my low beams would not turn on for about ten-twenty minutes and in fact still do this. Since having the dash die about 4 times on me in that couple weeks it hasn't done it since, but my low beams still have to sit and charge I assume before turning on? Now about june I purchased a plug n play HID kit which worked flawlessly as soon as I installed it, I believed that may be a culprit to my no low beams and maybe electrical problems so I uninstalled and went back to factory set up. Still no low beams immediately. I just replaced my alternator with a working spare I had and still nothing.. I am completely at a dead end on where to go from here and asking you fellow forum members for some knowledge and direction. Anything is appreciated if you can help. Thanks!
