One of the cables is disconnected or broken..

pull the dead side while you push the button to close it to kind of carry that dead side along..

If they are not in sync what you can do is take the sunroof panel down and take the motor out.

Pull the moonroof to full open position on both sides..

Put the motor back in and reset it ...

If that doesn't fix it, replace the gear that's on the moonroof motor...

If that doesn't fix it your going to have to replace the push cable which can be a expensive and lengthy process. Everything would have to come apart and it doesn't seem you would be able to.. Not trying to be rude either

Unless you can pick up a pair at the junk yard that would be good for you. And if you are able to get a junk yard one take that sunroof apart and learn before screwing with yours

Awesome advice on the learning on a j/y car.. I have done that with a heater core once and avoided ALOT of broken clips and things when it came time to do it. Thanx mang!

most bmw's come with a toolbox in the trunk(i say most because some tools go missing/get snatched by old owner before sale of vehicle), look for the s-shaped allen head. pull the panel where your sunroof switch is, there should be a, obvious spot in the dead center of where that panel is where you can insert the allen head. crank the hell out of it, I did that on my old 525 and it turned out I just had some twigs/various crap blocking the tracks

Ok so I pulled the switch panel / motor cover down and found that the motor screws had backed out allowing the motor to cock sideways and the gear to skip a few teeth. I pulled the motor and re-aligned the sunroof then set the motor to its closed point and re-installed. Now it works perfect! Thanx guys!
