View Full Version : first kill of the season :) E36 M3 VS G37 IPL

I was driving back home from Miami around 8pm , saw a car with xenons was right behind me. Once he passed me lights turned yellow and we both stopped at the light. He seemed like he was either in rush watching the other lights to turn yellow so he can take off or he wanted to have a run..Gray G37 with window tints and bright Hids and no passenger( I had one )... So he was close to a car a head of me at the light and once it turned green I pushed the throttle all the way to 7k rpm , everything happened so fast once I shifted to second , realized his bumper was by my rear window.. By the time I shifted to 3 he let off right before we came to the speed limit.. So I knew I beat the G37 coupe and turned my hazard lights on :evil2

After he pulled right next to me and I thought he was gonna give me thumbs up, I rolled the windows down, he did the same and realized it was my ex coworker who just bought that g37 IPL :lol I told him I have a vacuum leak he was like no wayy :D I said ask my friend (my passenger and he knows he worked with g37 driver as well )

FYI
Reason I took my M3 instead of 540i is taking it to dyno.. I took it to ACTIVE AUTOWERKS in MIAMI .. On their mustand dyno car could only push 206 whp.( Car is running vert rich) First we thought it was the tune and then they did a smoke test and found 3 vacuum leaks.. One is in the valve cover ( My mechanic forgot to put the screw back in :mad) another one by the icw (fixed) and other one is the two hoses connecting to valve cover ... And I ve a bad maf sensor.. It shows correct number at idle but at wot its lean...

So basically I beat the g37 IPL with an e36 M3 with a passenger, 2 luggages , spare and AA track pipe in the back seat :lol

Mods : m50 manifold, 14lbs chromoly flywheel, stage 2 clutch , ssk , cai , asc del , uuc system u cat back , 17lbs ltw wheels with pilot super sports. And vacuum leaks , bad maff :(

I live in Key west , its a little drive but once i fix the issues I will def consider some track events.Im done with suspension mods, please let me know if there are any events coming up in mid january or so ..

And do you have any idea where can I find a good dyno shop with dynojet? Mustang dyno breaks my heart :)

TD Autowerkes has a dynojet...my OBD1 S52 dynoed at 273whp 254wtq with crap exhaust, stock pulleys, stock tb, stock tb boot...here's the info: TD Autowerkes 12154 SW 114th Place Miami, FL 33176. Tel: 786.293.8876, I live in cutler ridge and it's about a 10-15 min drive to there. take the turnpike to 152 st. and head north on 117th ave for a little bit and it's by the warehouses on your right hand side...I almost bought a swapped E30 with a full bolt on M50tu pushing 199whp...that would have been a fun little car...He was going to sell it for $300 with stock bottle caps and stock interior:buttrock

His car is auto and from the standstill all he needs to do is pushing the gas all the way. I dont know if you have to be a great driver for that. Maybe he wasnt in the sport mode who knows.

Driver mod?

I had a perfect launch, good traction and shifted at 7k rpm but again ipl is auto I dont know how much driver error would it be? Im sure if it was a highway pull he could take the advantage especially with my vacuum leaks ( mechanics error) and the load that I had ( 2 bags, track pipe ,spare and passenger )

And to the guys looking for a dynojet in miami, I'm pretty sure Epic has a dynojet and they're in Miami.

After doing some research I'll most likely be getting my tuning done through them although I'll do my best to get before and after dynos somewhere else so no one claims it was loaded

G37 owner wasnt trying or can't drive. My buddies G37 IPL with bolt ons almost keeps up with my 135.

He knew my car since its the only one in key west and my licence plate shows my name with M letters before .. He was right behind me first , passed me and he could ve passed in yellow but instead he slammed his brakes stopped to have a run. He kept putting his cars nose ahead and I had to run after that. Trust me I was upset coming back home because of those small vacuum leaks and didnt feel like doing any runs at all... And I know the guy very well , he is always into runs. He even lost his job because of driving the shuttle van too fast and taking corners like its a sports car ( Passengers complaint eventually haha)

He obviously wanted to run and I did , he was right on my rear window all the way thru 3rd gear until he shut off... He even downshifted to do another run after I told him I had a vacuum leaks ( he said " No way " :lol but speed limit was 35 and its just not logic..

Who knows maybe ltw flywheel, ltw wheels , michelin ps2s helped but again I was running very rich and I had extra weights...

Tuning very expensive for non F/I.
But they are very good with N/A tunes.

From the reading I've done, their N/A tunes are awesome. In all honesty, I've really seen mostly S54 guys talk about them, but according to the actual wheel to wheel racers, Epic is where you wanna go for all out N/A power.

Plus their base tune starts around $350, and I won't be dropping in super radical cams so I won't need really many if any of the extras that add more $$.

Tristo, I in no way doubt that your car had amazing gains from your tune. Ignoring the #s, the way you've said the car has felt in terms of drivability, smoothness, and overall power delivery sounds like exactly what anybody would want.

Your posts and experiences with tecnica is actually what got me to question my original direction - I was previously dead set on TRM.

However, Epic is only about 1-1.5 hours south of me, and like I said above, the actual w2w racers I've read reviews from have all stuck with/gone to Epic. Many actually dropped other tunes to switch and (from what I've seen so far) all of them showed gains over the previous guy.

Considering all that, I gotta give Epic a shot first. If I'm really not happy about how it turns out, tecnica is next on the list, but I'm really hoping it won't be necessary since I'll probably be saving for a twin screw after I get bored with being N/A LOL

I dont know If you are talking about me beating the g37 but If you do, please check my other threads and posts , I didnt even feel like racing that g37 since I was just coming from miami with a bad dyno result ( 3 vacuum leaks , bad maf , car running rich) but owner is my ex coworker and obviously he was playing with me at the light since he knew it was my car ( only e36 m3 in key west) and I had to race him. I didnt even know it was him until he pulled up next to me after the loss... I told him I even have vacuum leaks and he was like no wayyy , he gave me thumbs up and drove... My friend was suprised too he was with me the whole day at Active Auto when I had that bad dyno result and he was like how money hp does that car have? Once I told him around 350 he was shocked as well cause he never even saw him since the g37 stayed all the way till 3rd in my rear window until he shut off...

I was also suprised with the result since I was down on power with leaks and extra weight ( passanger , 2 bags , track pipe in the back seat)but I do know that his car is auto so He cant miss the gear or so ...

Obvious win is an obvious win who knows maybe my ltw flywheel and ltw wheels helped with the advantage of m50 manifold and tune that I could take it upto 7k rpm..

I dont care who is trapping what, I care about the real world ;

I know the fact that I ve witnessed my buddy beat 350z (not HR) with my 540i , me in it and 350z didnt have a passenger , 3 highway pulls and 3 times at least a car length

I kept up with 2012 charger rt (350hp ) in my 540i(282hp factory claimed ) on the highway started at 70mph (didnt get a chance to line up)

Me driving my 540i on the highway put a bus length to g35 with some bolt ons , started at 65mph

Me driving my 540i at a drag strip against s2000 with full bolt ons 3 runs , i beat him at all runs

Me and my friend and a track pipe in my e36 m3 :) in the back seat with vacuum leaks and a bad maf beat g37 ipl no passenger till 3rd gear ( he shut off) gave me a thumbs up eventually with a suprised face when I said My car is running too rich

So its not always about papers ....
