I bought a 1995 White 740i - I have 2 issues :help

Speedo - I get in the car and the Speedo doesn't work, I can tap on the top of the dash and it gets it working most of the time. Where do I start on this one?

ABS Light is on - Light is on and with higher speed breaking, there is a throb on the breaks... I know that has to do with the light being on but where do I start on that one?

FYI - Loved looking around this Forum and seeing the tight core group that is willing to help everyone out!

Thanks in advance,
Derek

Your speedo, The gear is bad, You can get it rebuilt through VDO Repair, there are some others that will chime in on this as well..

ABS light could be an abs sensor issue.

ABS light could be an abs sensor issue.

Very true, and very likely a sensor(s). But, it could also be the ABS module itself. Lots of people have had to have their ABS module rebuilt. Usually you get 3 icons in the dash turned on that indicate a more likely ABS unit issue, but, the ABS light itself could be an ABS problem.

Welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the welcome Mayor!

Is it true that if the ABS light is on, your ABS is not working at all?

Correct there's a malfunction detected in the system.

The same happened to me. It was the ABS module. Modulemaster fixed it for $300. That was 3 years ago. No problems since.

Welcome, if your feeling a throbbing while braking you have an abs sensor thats not working properly, and the abs module is bouncing back and forth between the front sensors trying to equalize the braking pressure to compensate for its inability to create an accurate reading from which ever sensor has gone bad. easy fix: replace both front ABS sensors with OEM parts. I recommend oembimmerparts.com . Talk to Max
