View Full Version : WTB: A tight Steering box for my 540
My box has a ton of play in it, and I'd like to find a box that is in good tight shape. My car isn't an M-sport, so I don't think I have have the servo-tronic or whatever box. I'm not willing to drop serious coin either... I want a good fair deal. I'd rather buy a whole car and part it out for 1k than spend like 300 on a steering box, it just doesn't make economical sense for me. If anyone has anything or comes across anything, hit me up. I'd local pickup anywhere in MI, Chicago, or Between MI and KC MO.
Thanks

You're sure it not in the tie rod linkage? Its pretty rare to see internal wear in these boxes.

All the linkages are great, its just got a huge dead spot in the the middle, I've had 6 e34's this has been the first one that has really had an issue.

That would be sweet, he's in Chicago.

e28 boxes are adjustable. I don't know if e34 boxes are. There may be a large screw with a locknut on the top of the box. See if you can spot it.
Its touchy to set but I'd look into that before swapping the whole thing.

They do wear out if you or the damn PO had a leak for extended periods of time. It was too late when I fixed my leak. Now I got a huge dead spot and every time I change lanes and run over the reflectors or if the road is uneven the car just wants to steer either way without notice. Very scary at times. :eyecrazy
Note: If you look at my steering wheel at 12 O'clock it will move from 11 to 1 which is about 2-3 inches to each side. Adjusting didn't make a difference. :stickoutt
