Countryman Trim question

My sister recently (this week) took delivery of her new Countryman S. She got it in black, with red strips. Before delivery, I painted red new lower valance air vents, and they look very nice in that contrast. The question is regarding the turn signal "scuttle" on the upper fender. According to RealOEM this is a single piece, but it looks like you can buy the inserts. Hers are a plastic mesh with the 'S' in the corner, and I would like to paint that mesh. Is there an easy way to separate the pieces?

This is her second Mini. She traded in her S for the Countryman and loves it. I'm jelly
