I have two questions. The main question involves getting my car back from a non bmw collision center (minor cosmetic damage, nothing big).

When I got back into the car and was greeted with "please set time and date". This indicates the battery terminals were disconnected for a while, and several times the drivers side door I assume was opened and shut and now I think the window motor doesn't know exactly where the position of the window is.

I suspect this because when opening the door, it no longer does that short little twitch of rolling down the window half inch when opening the door so that it cleanly clears the seals, and then twitches back up when closing the door to tightly seal against the frame

First question is, is this easy to fix myself, or just take it to the dealership? :help

Second question is, lol, what do they call this "feature?"

There is a reset procedure that you can perform yourself. Can't recall if it is in our FAQ, but if you search, you should find it.

Under "Cars" it says yours is a 2011. Unless you exceeded the 50k your car is under warranty. Don't try to fix it yourself when the dealer can do it. If you break something while attempting to fix it you're screwed, if the dealer does they have to fix it at no expense to you other than time.

From what I remember, the window reset procedure is nothing more then hitting a few buttons in sequence, nothing you can't try at home first. If it doesn't work, then take it to the dealership, but I wouldn't say that it warrants going to the dealership before you try fixing it yourself.

thanks for the tips. After searching for "BMW window reset procedure" I finally found a post on zpost.com. It appears to detail the procedure nicely, I will try it out in a short while and if it works, ill probably cross post into here for additional reference.

I guess nobody really knows what this is called? :rolleyes
