Hey guys and gals,

My room mate is having issues with his car. The key fob doesn't stay in place in the ignition, it happen sporadically for two days and now it just wont stay in the ignition holder, so he can not start his car. It's either mechanical (something in the ignition holder itself) or electrical (possible fuse or immobilizer?). I did some research, anybody know of the immobilizer causing problems and/or how to reset it?

Thanks in advance for any help at all!

Specs:
'08 328i
No keyless entry

If it is falling off, somebody probably broke the plastic mechanism that holds it in place by yanking the fob out instead of pushing to release. You need to replace that and from what I've seen it is not cheap.
You can hold it in by hand and once the car starts, it should be no problem if the fob falls out. Or if it is, you can shut it off and start it again without a fob within a couple of seconds.

Yeah we tried that. It doesn't work. It's feels/sounds like the mechanism that latches on to the fob clicks once to hook on then immediately clicks again as if to unlatch itself. When the fob is in, the car works as if it's in acc mode allowing the windows and radio to function.

So were stumped, my buddy had it towed to my mechanic and they're going to replace the ignition. Hoping that resolves the issue.

Keep you posted. If any one else has any input feel free to leave a post, thanks.

Btw thanks for the input! Didn't want your help to go unnoticed.
