hey guys, im taking my license test soon and i need to get my srs (airbag) light off on my 1995 525i to take it. I pulled out the instrument cluster and removed the bulb for the light, but all that did was make it a bit dimmer. anyone got ideas?
thanks guys!

Go to a shop and bribe them with some paper money or beer to have them put it in the computer and read/delete the error code..
Or you could search the forum for Stomp test. Do not know if airbag error codes shows up using that tho..

Disconnect the connectors at the orange SRS box under the dash.

How about using a different car? I'm pretty sure disconnecting the the connectors won't turn off the light.

Why would they care about the light when taking the license test?
Stomp test does not concern airbags. You need a reset tool, but you also have to repair the fault if there is one before that will work. The reset tool won't tell you what the problem is.

There is another bulb you have to take out, you will have to take apart the gauge cluster to get to it. Just be careful cause the little tabs can break easily.

There is a back-up LED on the circuit board right above where the SRS bulb goes in. You have to disassemble the cluster, and removing the soldered on LED is practically impossible, however a small piece of electrical tape will cover the LED and prevent it from showing.

Removing the bulb is the worst advice. Fix the problem.

+1
And it's a '95 with dual SRS, so the control unit is under the rear seat. Get the faults read and fix it, you will need to find a shop with a good DIS to do this.
With any luck the faults just need to be cleared due to someone pulling the steering wheel or cluster without disconnecting the battery.
A large percentage of these control modules were recalled. Yours could still have an original, recalled module in it. Call a dealer and see if there's an open campaign on it, they can tell you over the phone from the last 7 of the VIN.

so if there is a problem the reset tool will not take the light off? or will it for a little bit?
i never had a light then when i removed my passenger seat to fix the tilt i forgot to hook up that little metal wire under the seat. after that the light would come on for a few moments on start up and turn off.
then i replaced my steering wheel with a euro 3 spoke from a e36(disconnecting the battery) i took the slip ring off the stock wheel in my car and screwed it onto the 3spoke wheel. every since that i have had the SRS light on at all times and my horn does not work?
believing that my main issue is the slip ring, what slip ring do i need to use with the e36 euro m3 wheel? just want to make sure i get the correct one and THEn reset the light. and hopfully get my horn back!
i have a 95 540i/6
OP good luck on the test!

There are some plastic clips that hold the cluster together, it can be difficult to get it to stay together if the clips break.

Later cars have seat belt pretensioners that are part of the SRS system, so removing the seat without disconnecting the battery set a fault. It's not related to the auto belt height adjustment wire being connected....

Totally depends on the steering wheel. On some E34 columns there's a contact pin for ground, it's not used on others. Some steering wheels require it. There are at least four different types of slip rings used throughout US production (that I can think of right now). Usually the only way to make this work is to get all of the parts in front of you and see what goes together.
