Kind of installed my dinan cold air intake last night but did not fully install it. My buddy who helped me installed just installed the air filter and took out the stock air box. Did not take off the bumper to get under the car because he said because of Oregon weather rain/water could get in there and ruin the engine, so it is installed as a ram air intake. Is there any sufficient evidence to support this claim or was he trying to take the easy way out of helping me?

Why spend the money on a Dinan CAI, only to use the filter? You could have gone to Schucks and gotten a cone filter for 15 bucks and clogged your intake plenum for $580+ less.......

Take the time and do the job right!

You don't have to worry about rain, there is a splash sheild mesh type of net that goes over the filter so that droplets of water just fall off. What you DO have to worry about is going through a puddle deep enough that your filter sucks up water.

The filter sits behind the fog light, so if you have puddles that deep where you live when it rains, you'd have to be really careful with the CAI, or else you could suck up enough water to hydrolock your engine.

you have to cut into the sheet metal correct?

Not really into the sheet metal, but the plastic directly under the stock airbox closer to the bumper corner.

I know this pic doesn't show it, but gives you an idea...

Long time bud. I think last year, maybe the year before? You need to come around more often :shifty

Bought from a fellow member Strahan for a really good deal that I couldn't pass up, and don't really care that I don't have the associated software to go with it. :devillook

Did you do it yourself? What did you use and what steps did you take?

One of the best investments I made for the E38! But I didn't wait for the rad to give out, just went ahead and did it! :alright

Well when I install the zionsville, I'm also going to overhaul the cooling system. Hoses, waterpump, heater core etc. So while I'm still acquiring every thing I figure let the thing break on its own.

Makes sense. I did the entire cooling system all together as well. Only way to do it right!
