A new mystery sound... Ideas?

Car is a 98' 740i. This is a new sound that started today..The sound i can only describe as a cross between whiny power steering pumps, and a screw-type supercharger.. The sound does not change at all when I turn my wheels back and forth, so I don't think it is power steering. The pitch, and volume of the sound (whine) change with rpm. My belt and tensioners are new, and this is not that type of squeal.. It sounds to me like an internal whine. Oil level is fine, and no check engine light. The car also seems to run just fine, nothing is different other than this sound.. I have also replaced my intake gaskets and osv a few months ago... so its not that.. The only thing I can think of it being is the oil pump going out...
I'm at a loss, so anything you guys have to offer would be great.. Searches turn up too many results for them to be accurate or useful

Hm if you had any type of oil pump problem your light would defiantely be on.. As far as the noise we can only get a better idea if you could try and get a video posted up for us. would help greatly.

It is the steering pump i have the same noise
And its louder when its cold
I am planing change the oil soon

+ some time when i turn the steering all the way i will hear a weird noise

I could post video, but I think all you would hear would be engine noise.. This noise isn't very loud.. If it were power steering, wouldn't the noise change when I move the wheel back and forth?

yeah if your power steering fluid is low or the fluid is really dirty it will make noises when you turn your steering wheel.
