The warranty is up on my rig in May and I'm seriously considering a BMW 335i. I'd love to get another SL55 or SL600, but I honestly need more room and better gas mileage now that I no longer work exclusively from home. I'm also getting tired of the negative attention my car gets.
....but there is a problem, I test drove a stock 2011 335is (320hp instead of the 300hp the 335i's make) and it felt so damn slow. I guess I am spoiled. LOL.
From my limited research, it looks like my best bet is to buy a 335i from 2008-2010 (avoid first year bullshit, get oil cooler, and get the n54 engine) and add software, intercooler, and downpipes.
Is it fair to say that a 335i (n54) with good software, intercooler, and downpipes will put out about 400hp and 450 torque at the crank?
What about intake and exhaust? It seems these mods don't add much power. Most of the exhaust systems cost 4 figures and claim 4-6 hp gains. It seems exhaust is more for a sound change then power gain.
What needs to be done to get a 335i up to 450hp or even 500hp? Is it possible, or are we now talking larger turbos and a built engine?
