I live in Germany and I am driving a US spec 328 x drive sedan 2011. The cars governor kicks in at 137 mph. I would like to remove it, I drive according to road conditions but sometimes 137 isn't enough. What is the best way to remove it. I'm not looking to retune the car I only want to remove the governor nothing else. Is this possible? If not what is the best option? Thank you.

The governor is there for a reason. Your stock tires have a max speed rating of 130 mph. Assuming you put on Tires capable of more, many aftermarket options are available to disable the governor.
Btw, has mileage is horrible at those speeds, what are you averaging? It will be worse beyond those speeds as you are approaching the limit of the engine's capability to defeat drag.

The tires I am running are W rated which are good up to 168mph. I travel nearly every week from the near of Regensburg to Hamburg. At max speed I average about 18 mpg. The car is amazingly smooth and composed at top speed. I have maintained top speed in this car for 100's of kilometers perhaps 1,000's since I have purchased the car new. What is the best route to go for turning it off?

18mpg is pretty good at that speed. As I said, look for aftermarket tuners, most allow the governor to be removed. I cannot recommend a specific brand.

Thanks, looks like their closest location is in Bodonsee which is near Switzerland. There are a couple places that I know of in Munich as well which is much closer to me. I'm going to call them and see what they say.

You're welcome.
Btw, did you change your radio to European frequencies and if yes, how?

Just wondering, why do you have a US spec BMW in Germany?

@Regensburger, the dealer must have set that up for me because it picked them up from the factory. This car has never left europe. @Bad, there are awesome deals over here for service members through BMW and we don't pay tax on them, but the offers only apply on the US spec models. A German would have payed nearly twice what I payed for mine in a similar optioned 3 series.
