The lady will be getting out of the shop on Monday with a new head gasket, timing chain guides and an oil separator, but I just moved into an apartment complex and yesterday they just installed these huge asphalt speed bumps that are sure to take out my oil pan. Do I have any recourse?

My car is not lowered (yet), but how high are these speed bumps? shouldn't be too bad if you take it slow enough.
How much are you paying your mechanic for the said work if you don't mind me asking?

Theyre brutal... and altogether it was $1500, but the heads were machined.

Is there enough run up and width to go at an angle?

...and this "150kb size limit for attachments is sheer faggotry.

They look about 2.5" tall, not too bad, just go slow, I've passed worse then that when I was slammed with no issues, don't let the car bounce after passing, that's what makes you scrape

We'll see how it goes when she gets out of the shop, but I went ahead and changed my comprehensive coverage on my insurance just in case.
Is there some limit to how high speed bumps can be? If all else fails, I'll just dig a channel out of them for/with my oil pan.

Let us know how that goes. :rofl
Did you replace the chain itself? After extensive mileage and the heat and cold, they tend to expand, not my much though.

It's all about the angles for me. My complex has several speed bumps, none really huge, but I take them at an angle slowly making sure not to bounce and I never seem to have an issue.

I'll post a picture of the damage that ensues...they're so high, I'm afraid of scraping my side skirts.

Looking at the first pic it looks like someone has already left a bit of the bottom of thier car on those speed bumps..
They do look a bit severe.

I would try practicing your angles if possible. I drive both my e30 and my e38 throughout downtown seattle with steep driveways, speedbumps and potholes. (both are very low)
If you can only go over straight, go slow, put 2x4s out there, or pour gasoline to shrink the bumps. Never tried the last one ;)

I was already thinking about the gasoline... Apparently, the car should be done today!

Apparently, the car should be fixed by Tuesday... then I fight the speed bumps.

Because bandwidth is free after all.... Photobucket is your friend.
Speed bumps on private property are not regulated. You can file a complaint with the property owner and/or start a petition with the residents. Both would go a long way when filing a damage claim after, IF your car is stock.

@ an angle.....one wheel @ a time should do it.

Go fast and let the suspension take the hit? There are not may speed bumps where I live but this is my typical method of taking care of them.

My car's pretty low...do you think it would be worthwhile to start a petition with the residents to have them removed or at least lessened?

I think first you ought to find out if it is an issue with hitting the bottom of your car.

get some plywood or angled 2x4s like a long makeshift ramp you can just roll over and roll down

It's an apartment complex...I don't think they'll let me build ramps in their parking lot.
