View Full Version : Replacing O2 sensors

Hey all,

I am a happy 1998 750iL owner. It already has 225k on the odo and have replaced the maf sensors. It seems fuel efficiency is going down a bit and apparently it is recommended to replace o2 sensors every 90k or so.

My question is do I need to reset something in the computer after replacing the sensors or is a " battery nap" sufficient. Or not neccesary all together.

I do not have inpa so would have to go to a dealer...

Thanks in advance

Hi

Ideally, would be good to reset adaptations after but not strictly necessary if you have no dash warning lights.

NO!
DO NOT reset adaptations on the V12.

Because itll be expensive when it is fried... Never reset a v12

I reset EML adaptation data on my 750, many times.

^^ Really? I hear i fscks up the EML and you need a new one for 2k?

I'm thinking of getting an old one off EBay DE and trying it out.

Will I need to VIN code the EML if I install it?

IMHO, When I changed the oxy sensors, I just drove it as per normal. Don't expect much fuel economy improvement unless you're ones are totally gone.

There are no warning lights so it is more preventive maintenance. I would assume the computer adjusts to new sensors but resetting adaptations would make the change quicker...

Nobody ever preventivly replaces their oxygen sensors???

I change them in my cars when fuel economy is no good. Some cars respond well, other's not so much.

E38 is a costly exercise to replace the oxygen sensor with genuine bosch items, around $400 for all 4 sensors if you go for an OEM bosch unit.

Yes, i do that with INPA, than i reset EML adaptation data at first time. the throttles was lost, they was non response for my leg than i was puting the gas pedal, engine was just idling and i got 2 errors in EML CONTROL MODULE, it has happened for you too?

I wouldnt risk it. It'll relearn the new adaptations overtime...

i relearn my throttles at least four times and it works fine. you no need to replace your EML control module!!!
