I have owned 2 E30 one a semi built M20 setup , and the most recent I just sold lat night a Swapped S50 car . I needed the room since I have kids , and am stepping away from the speed game for a bit . I am posting a link on a 95 E38 I am looking at . The ODO shows in the area of 129000 . http://www.auto-locate.com/for-sale/bmw/WBAGF6328SDH08196/
Guy is asking 4000 . Anything to look over then the usual would be greatly apprecieated !

I think you can do better then that for $4000. I didn't know anyone would even spend that much on a 95 model that wasn't pristine.

Specifically look for coolant leaks. The 95 model year was the only model with the M60 V8 engine so even though it is rare to see at this point, some of those engines could suffer loss of compression. I will state again that it is a rare problem anymore since the sulfur content in American gasoline is way down from what it use to be. Just to note, from the pictures I can see that the car has swapped turn signals for the euro style clears and I am willing to bet the wheels have also been swapped for a nice set of M-parallel wheels. I don't think BMW offered M-Parallels in 95. I say this because you might find other parts of the car modified as well.

Get as much Info as you can, check thrust rod arms, coolant hoses, radiator, struts,
check all maintenance records. the M60 engine in the 95's are solid robust engines. Check if car has any oil leaks, try and get it on a lift and see it.. Anything else you need don't hesitate to ask us.

Not a whole lot of extras.... :(

Pizza- the ad now shows $2988, which I guess isn't an awful price, but to me,

OP, I'd suggest keeping an eye out for a 99+ Sporty Shorty. Given your history and current situation, I think that variant of the E38 would handle daddy duty (got 4 myself) yet still be plenty fun for you to drive :evil2

-edit-

OP- have you checked CL? I just threw "BMW" into Ft Myers....man.... you've got PLENTY of other E38's to choose from.

Here's one to go look at _today_ http://fortmyers.craigslist.org/lee/cto/3364484158.html

Yeah talked to them today and asking price now is 2900 . All I see from sitting in the car is that the abs and traction control light is on . I am gonna try and get off work early to get it by a shop and test drive it . Called BMW and they really have no records on it besides injectors, power steering hoses , heater control switch , and a window switch .

Coils can be bought used pretty cheap. I have a bunch if you need. And there are no wires. Just boots that attach to the coils.

Well I got the guy with the original one down to $2300 . Took it over to the shop and got it up on a lift . No leaks , need rear pads , control arm bushings soon , and tires soon . Thinking maybe the ABS light is on due to the pads being gone ?

no, it will say check brake linings, if the sensors are gone.. 2300 sounds like a fair deal, has the radiator been replaced, and hoses? anything else?? See if he will go down to 2k, then settle the deal for 2250.

I would be hesitant. With the badge moved like that could have been rear ended. for sure the rear trunk lid has been repainted.:confused

I would try driving the 01 listed first before you buy the 95.. Just to get a feel for what a couple extra bucks will get you.. If you don't you will spend a ton of money doing the same upgrades that the 01 already has..

Check all the control arms for wear on either car. Expensive exercise if you don't DIY.

read previous posts... they need replacing. :)

ABS light and traction control lights are usually an indication of a bad wheel speed sensor, or one of your tires is severely the incorrect size. More likely the sensor.

Good luck and have fun! :)
