Had my SES come on tonight on the way home from work. Car has been ideling rough on startup lately. didnt think much of it as it would come and go. Got a couple miles down the road and the light came on tonight. Engine would not accelorate but it would hold speed without any problems. Called the dealer and they said to bring it in tomorrow. Got another few miles down the road and the light went out and car ran fine. Its a 2010 335i xdrive, 60k miles. Dealer said HPFP was replaced before i purchased. Just wondering what to be prepared for at the dealer even though i got the 100k mile warranty.

First thing is to find out what code it is throwing. But just guessing at it blindly I would start with coil ignitors or spark plugs.

I have a 2007 335i which behaved similarly. After plug and coil replacement, the trouble was actually the#6 fuel injector. I didn't get a code reader prior to replacing the hardware, so I tried the obvious first. My BMW dealer did the injector replacement under the CPO warranty for absolutely free, along with brakes and filters. I do think the BMW service with warranty is very good. I hope they resolve your problem to your satisfaction. We pay a lot for these cars, and warranty service should be excellent .

By the time i got an appointment the light went out on its own. No codes stored. Seems to be running fine. Dealer questioned bad gas? Ill have to bring it in if it happens again right away.

I had my plugs done on my 2008 335i at 45k, because that's the only mileage based maintenance. About two weeks later the same thing happened to me (starting rough, light on and would reset). I took it to the dealer after resetting a misfire code once, after it started running really bad and the service light was flashing. Turns out it's the injectors. Two week repair time! Good thing I got a 535i for a loaner.

As MikePerkins said fuel injectors. The direct injection on N54 is finky. MY07/8 are known to get the fuel injector tick but other years are not immune to fuel injector issues.
