Im starting a project on my 95 il and wanted to know if there is any direct placement lsd i can throw in there? Which model can i take and place on mines, i have an open diff but i want an lsd to compliment power and cornering abilities, any ideas?

the e39 M5 uses a 3.15 LSD... it's very pricey around $1,000 used
it should bolt in... but double check if the half shafts are the same length

The m5 diff is shorter. Drive shaft would need to be modified.
There are no direct fit lsd's.

What kind of mods does the shaft need?

I think the "easiest" (very relative term here) is to swap the E32 750 LSD gears into the diff case from a 95 3.15 E38. I believe that the gear sets out of the E32 750 fit into the 95 diff case.

I've heard that before too. Not confirmed, but hypothesized.

.... I've been mulling over buying an E32 750iL (hit light in rear) parts car. Are they all LSD or do i need to check?

Yeah in theory it sounds like it could work. Sounds like this guy got it to work with some modification http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1536944
According to him the LSDs were in early E32s
