I have connected a video source to the rear av inputs in my car, it works good but it displays "program av" on the top of the screen. Does anybody know how to get rid of it? I watched a youtube video showing tv in an e38 and it went away after a couple seconds in the video. I've unlocked my tv so it works while moving.

I used PA Soft to take off that "AV" .
There is a option with "tick the box" ,just un-tick that box :)

Does navcoder have the capability to clear the overlayed text from the TV? Does it work with an inpa cable? I want to order an inpa cable soon to clear my airbag light, and it would be nice if I could use it for this to. Would one of the $25 inpa/USB cables from eBay work?

I'm bit stoned now :) so many questions in one thread :D
Ok, i'll try! Navcoder not work with INPA cable.
PA Soft = BMW Scanner You can read/erase faults in all units, make coding, change mileage and VIN numbers after unit replacement etc...
BMW Scanner is available for ~60€

NavCoder works with my INPA cable and by INPA cable, I mean rv8flyboy's cable. I have not tried it with any other INPA cable (ex. eBay cable).

I don't recall seeing an option to turn AV off on NavCoder but that does not mean it is not under another menu. (I am very new to NavCoder)

By the way you should be able to clear the green AV icon and the clock from the screen by pressing the clock symbol on the left side of the screen above the SELECT button. It works on mine and I have the 16:9 screen. Not sure if the 4:3 is the same.

It's not the green av and time at the bottom I'm worried about, it has a rectangle that says "programme av" at the top that won't go away. I'll try and snap a pic of it later. I can press the clock button to get rid of the green text, but the box with the channal number/source name at the top won't go away...

Sorry, I misunderstood.
That is a weird one for sure. Mine goes away after a few seconds.
I also remember something about auto-store on mine but just went downstairs and could not access that setting. Maybe it is related to that somehow.
If you have not already tried it, maybe a battery nap will help. If that fails as well, the following manuals may help shed some light.

That isn't uncommon on this forum. The e38 forum is very active, hence one of the reasons it is so great. :)

Yeah, I'll try a battery nap. Maybe it has something to do with me unlocking the TV in motion, I used the guide on e38.org...

I'm still having this issue, anybody have any ideas?

I connected an atsc tuner so I could watch TV, and I'm still trying to figure out how to get the text to go away. When I press the clock button, the green clock goes away, but the text at the top is still there. Can I reset the TV module somehow?

The "Programme AV" at the top flickers every few seconds, but it never goes away, any ideas?

Anybody?

Anybody?

I looked thru all my TV tuner info.
Although I didn't find an answer, I did notice something a little odd. In your picture above, the "Programme AV" looks like a flat line.
When I change a channel on my TV tuner, and when it comes up "Programme AV" (for example), the "Programme" looks like it's a title on a button you could press (ie - the image of a wide, rectangular button with "Programme" on it as the title for the button). As the others have stated, my "Programme AV" goes away in a coule of seconds, and shows up (for a couple of seconds) when I change the channel.

My testing all was done in 16x9 mode. I didn't test in 4x3 mode. Mine (like yours, I ASSUME) is in NTCS mode.

Sorry I don't have any helpful info.

But, if you wouldn't mind, could you explain in a little more detail about your atsc tuner? Does it pick up the now digitally broadcast TV signals?
Info like where you purchased yours, if you had to install an antenna to pick up the signals, and I again ASSUME you leave your TV tuner in AV mode, while you switch channels thru the atsc tuner?

Thanks!

Sure.

Does it pick up the now digitally broadcast TV signals?
Yep.

Info like where you purchased yours.
Somebody gave it to me, they got it in 2009 when they were giving them out for free. Although you can get them at fry's, radio shack, etc... They're really cheap.

...you had to install an antenna to pick up the signals.
I connected it to the existing phone antenna. I was going to use the original TV antenna, but it's amplified, and when I disconnect the TV module's rf connector, it also messes up the radio reception. Interestingly, it works well even without the mast for the phone antenna installed...

You'd be correct. I can use the remote as seen a few posts up...

Thanks!
No problem. :)

I didn't modify the car in any way, I ran the coax cable under the rear seat bottom and through the c-pillar. The tuner runs on five volts, so I connected it to a usb cord, and to my phone charger... I put the tuner under the driver's seat.

I could've installed it in the trunk, and tapped into the TV module's antenna connection, but this way I didn't splice or modify anything, and it took only like 20 minutes to install...

I still wish I could get rid of that text though. :(

Now, for the killer question - how is the reception while you're driving?
Back when the digital tuners came out (2009, like you mentioned), the posts that I read about the guys that tried it always complained that sitting still they got a decent (digital) picture. But, once they started moving, it would wander in & out of reception & got a wavy, unfocused picture.
Are you doing anything unique to get a good quality picture while moving?

Picture goes out above 5-10mph or so, nothing you can really do about that. ATSC signals (moreso the tuners), can't handle the doppler effect... Although you shouldn't be watching it while driving anyway. The picture is actually excellent while stopped though.

This is the setup. No wire is visible between the edge of the seat bottom and the phone antenna...

OK. I see the path from the phone antenna back to the TV tuner (under the rear seat...).

Thanks for the pics & info.

Too bad about not being able to get a clear picture once you start moving. Back in the analog days, we used to get a decent picture, even while driving.
Progress!

I have these inputs in my car but they don't do anything. Are they supposed to work or did they come in all e38s?

What type of cable did you use to plug into the av input?
