HI,
I bought a 2008 325i E93 second hand in Australia. It had around 32000 kilometres on there.
The 1 litre top up indicator comes up every 2000 to 3000kms. I have had it at the dealer 2 times with nothing found.
I know these cars use oil, but is this normal? There are no signs of leaks and from what the dealer told me the O rings were fine.
I had a 1 year premium warranty still in effect from the BMW dealer.
Any help would be great as I am really worried at the moment.
Cheers,
Michael

That is considered normal consumption but you would find most of our engines use little oil.
Cause could be the CCV not handling the amount of oil and vapors. Also under high boost the PCV does leak too
Some things to maybe look at
If you have oil sitting in the intake manifold you are having one of these problems...

OP has 325i, so high boost would be doubtful. I've had mine for 9 months now, and had to add 1 quart of oil (6 months after an oil change). I hope it's not normal! No leaks, no blue smoke, so.. what?

By BMW's standards it is considered normal, as in they will not do anything about it if under warranty. You'd have to be burning a liter ever 1500km or so for them to consider it an issue.

I put in a about a L every 1000 miles, but I drive very hard

Thanks guys. It appears it may be normal then. I will check the manifold though and see what I find.
BMW does consider this normal consumption. My mate had a 330i 2002 model and it doesnt use no where near this much oil.
To be honest, I dont care how much it uses, so long as there isn't an underlying problem that will rear its ugly head soon.

Yep 325 vs 335 I blew that one.
CCV should be checked as that can cause this king of oil use in a 325 as well...

HI,
What is CCV sorry?

Crankcase Cyclone Valve (CCV) here is a reference. As you can see it sits under the intake manifold and should be draining oil back into the sump.
Hope this helps

My BMW has no consumption on regular oil changes between the 15k intervals except for towers the end of oil interval when oil is thinking one time it used 1/4 of QT. my Audi 03 1.8t never consumed oil and they are well know for oil consumption and sludge but it was a strong engine up to 160k it started using oil at the end because of improper threading of oil filter one it was brought back to Audi at that high mileage for consumption that was never there before it miraculously stopped and hasn't happen since as I said BMW 09 335i is also fine the normal allowance is some crap the manufacture pushes of for not so perfect parts like piston oil ring and regular piston rings not being aligned 180deg opposite causing blow by and burn off and most cars do consume oil but if rings are aligned and working right oil should blow by till 6k or better due to thinning and as I said my cars havnt had that problem did Audi every 6k though and BMW is around 10k when the car tells me it's time and still no consumption
Not trying to thread jack, but that is the longest run on sentence I've ever seen on here!

I could care less about my sentences when I'm typing from phone and on a forum but I'm sure this could be the start of a good BMW joke right.
Typical left lane snarky BMW owner remark<---I'm sure that will get another
Listen, maybe you could care less, but it just makes sense to be respectful to those whose help you are asking. I usually do not comment on run-off sentences or bad grammar unless they are extremely hard to follow. Honestly in this case, it is very hard to follow, so the comments made were not out of place, but yours are.
I moderate and contribute a lot from my phone (check my post count) and typing extra periods or commas is not that difficult. If you want us to help you, help us help you. Coming with a "do not care" attitude would most probably mean you will get few responses, I've seen many individuals get ignored due to bad attitude.
Oh, and just so you know, we have a rule about that:

If it helps, i'm typically adding a new quart about every 1,500 to 2k miles, so fairly close to your experience...assuming my mental math is right on the unit conversion. Dealership tells me it's totally normal if driving hard. Love the service at that dealership btw. For oil top offs i make no appointment, just pull up and tell them i need a top off, and i get pit crew service, putting me back on the road in under 5 minutes to capture the checkered flag. =)
