for legal reasons....well....the W140 is going to be stripped, gutted, down to her carcass and sold off. i got lucky today...but i wont later on so its gotta go bye bye.

now is the time, where i now have the bargaining ability to get another vehicle.

first $600 i get out of the benz goes to rear end rebuild anyway for the E38. then ill have a nice running and riding car.

beyond that tho, its time to look elsewhere. the W140 is still my favorite but it is not a great DIY car, the community isnt as great as it is here in terms of technical help. theres lots of great stuff but its really not a great diy car. the E38 however is for the most part.

so now im debating the following....

X5, another E38, early E39, another crown vic, a tahoe or suburban (probably tahoe).

Im married, 2 kids one in a car seat. we have an 09 impala (wifes car) and E38 (mine) and the W140 was SUPPOSED to be the family road car/spare/client car. i have been leaning towards an early build X5 for space, and some cargo...its a great combo between luxury and practical and the wife can use an X5 for good clients (real estate agent) if needed, taking place of the W140, and the convenience of the suburban/tahoe for space. the tahoe/sub would be a great car to work on, but i have no space for a suburban and a tahoe is pushing that space limit. but parts are cheap, and you can tear down the motor in an hour lol but no luxury that i have been spoiled with.

If you're set on not getting one, don't drive one. The Tahoe/Suburban seems like a good idea.

E53 4.6 to stay within the Bimmer familia, or a Tahoe...

assuming your after something big? why not buy something cheap to run and cheap to repair like an e36, something for you to have fun with, and then spend the rest on maintaining the real love of your like, the e38 ;)

I say Tahoe. I have a Yukon XL. 110k miles. The thing needs zero love, can sit for weeks and starts and runs every time with no complaints; rear heat and a/c that works really well (passengers very appreciative); cupholders, cubbies everywhere.

Think it needs some tierods or something up front, and had to do the brakes. But over 10k miles that truck has cost me about a 20th of what the E38 has over 20k miles.

And, end of the day it shines up nice and looks like a completely respectable and loved rig.

Crown vic. They're cheap to buy, cheap to run and with all the 4.6 mustangs out there there is some aftermarket support for that engine.

It doesnt matter as long as your still here, you and a few others are like walking cheat sheets to the e38 bretheran lol

How about an e39 touring? Lots of space and the best looking rear end ever put on a wagon period. If you get the V8 you will see a lot of similarity in information for the 740. Plus the e39 support group is probably pretty good as well.

If not a Tahoe, I think he's right. That generation E class is a great car.

I say older e39, e46 sedan, or other e38. I'm not in love with the build quality of the Americans an I don't have any experience with the x5. I did love my 97 540i and my e46. The bonus with the e46 is the car is virtually carefree and the sedans are cheaper than the coupes generally. My friends parents just got a 330 with 105k and it is a lot of car for 5k

If I get another car it will be an Alfa Romeo 156 6speed 2.5. Looks like a Coupe but is actually four doors. Inexpensive to purchase, enthusiasts car.

Possibly not enough corners to enjoy it where you live.
