View Full Version : help...new BMW lover...ignition problems

So we bought an beautiful 540i, fell in Love at 1st sight. Had the spinning key issue so i replaced the ignition barrell. Removal and installation went fine, but when i put the outer ring back on it blocked my ignition and now i cant insert key. I assume its a security feature? Can i fix this or do i need to take it to the dealer? I did get the ignition barrell from the dealership.

Any input is appreciated.

Possibly spun the cylinder on reinstall? I'm not sure but IIRC, you have to recode the antenna ring to match the key code...right guys?

recode or not, the key will turn the cylinder. something not installed corrected.

Any more info for the antenna? I was planning on making a e60 key and I wanted to just put the antenna around my e90 key reciever.

Battery was disconnected, Key worked fine,clicked though all the positions, until we put the ring on, now something is actually blocking key. We cannot remove the new ignition barrell because we cannot insert key.
