Damn could you imagine this happened during the winter. I'm lucky to have a generator running part of the day and the internet connection just got restored the other day, but probably won't have regular power for a couple more days. I don't know how areas that get ice storms stay warm during the winter when the power goes out!
This was a WEAK storm! and so much was lost for so many.

Nope, we got lucky. The answer for heat is either having oil/gas heat, having a fireplace/wood stove, or using a kerosene space heater. We have a fireplace upstairs and a wood stove downstairs that can be used for heat in emergencies since our heat is usually provided by a heat pump.

I wired my house for a generator back in 99. I've used it a half dozen times. I have all life's essentials hooked up....coffee pot, microwave, fridg, furnace and 2 lights
Sandy was pretty much a no show here which is good since we're still dealing with loose ends from Irene over a year ago. Most of the state got slammed like Manhattan with Irene

3 days without power last year. No problems this time around.
My new generator just arrived on Friday; was ordered on Sunday as the storm rolled in. A day late and a dollar short, eh?

Dang. I can't imagine how it is over on the east coast. Major floods and loss of power and life essentials for days. I don't know what I'd do ... I'm glad we hvn't had it that bad here in Southern California. Hope you guys are recovering okay over there. Hope your E36 stayed safe

I lost power during the storm and haven't had any up until 5 minutes ago! Thank God!
Now, tomorrow after waiting in a 2+ hour gas line to get some gas, I will have to search the area for a paintless dent removal specialist and get a few quotes, I have noticed 5 dings/dents in the car, it used to be dent free :/ . Damn fallen tree branches showed no mercy -__-.

See if that is covered under your homeowners insurance instead of your car insurance. I have a much lower deductible on my homeowners and it won't affect your rates.

Yeah I will look into that, hopefully it does!

Last winter ice storm we had we were without power for 12 days. And we live in the country on an electric well, so that meant no running water either.
Our woodburning cooktop stove will flat run ya out of the house sometimes though, so heat wasn't a problem.
