So, I am one day away from purchasing a 2009 E92 328i coupe. It's everything I desire. I don't need fancy packages, extra options. I just want a basic 3 series to compliment my aging jalopy.
So my specific question is:
How reliable is it compared to the E30?
I am aware of the HFPF (spelling) issue but that's mostly the 335i's.
What should I look/listen for in this specific model?
How can I tell what engine I have? SULEV, n51,n52 etc..
For the curious:

I have not even heard of a 328 with HPFP problems, is the engine even direct injected?
I didnt realize there is a number of engines that could be in one, figured it was just one.
I haven't heard of any issues with 328's, probably just electrical issues. Was the E30 even reliable?

1) The NA motors do no have the fuel pump/ injector issues that the turbo cars had issues with.
2) The car should be a reliable as any modern car at this point with care and maintenance. There are a lot more computers controlling the E9x cars then in your E30. You might have some issues comparing it to the E30 as that chassis seems to be known as one of the most reliable by BMW.
3) you have the N52 3.0 motor Non-SULEV
The car looks very nice and good luck with the buying of it.

.
Just the N52. The N53 uses direct injection, but not sure if it had similar HPFP issues. Not used on the 3 series in North America, but used on some models of the 5er in NA and 3er elsewhere.
