I am currently looking at replacing my dtc reader to one that is more versatile. The one i currently have does ok for obd2 bmws but nothing for obd1 . So i have been looking at the launch euro pro. According too the matco tool peddler it will communicate with obd2,obd1,abs,and srs systems. Does anybody have experience with this tool. Or does anybody have a suggestion of what to get. I want a scan tool that will do obd1,obd2,SRS,ABS, I have tried to read the bmw software forums but those guys seem to speak a language I haven't learn yet. The bmws I want to plug into are '92 750il,'90 525i,'98 528i,

I'm pretty sure that particular Launch won't do ANY of the cars you listed. I'll check tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it's 16 pin only. In the mean time, two questions. Does the 90 have a 20 pin socket? And, do you really want OBDii, or do you want full access to the OBDii compliant cars?

Currently I have a matco can 400 diagnostic tool which does a pretty good job at reading data through the 16 pin connector under the driver dash on the 98 528i but doesn't give me access to the srs system which I currently have the light on for so I hoping that the launch euro pro will. The '90 525 and '92 750il don't have the 16 pin connector under the dash but do have the big 20 pin connector.under the engine hood is this the 20 pin you referred to. According to my matco guy who asked launch it does come with the adapter for the 20 pin connector.
I do want full access to all 3 of my bmws

Damn automerge.
I still can not log into the Launch website (which unfortunately is far from uncommon), so all I can find is the glossy drivel on the various vendor sites. The "universal 16 pin connector" is the question... does that mean it only comes with a 16 pin, or that there is only one connector for all 16 pin applications. You need the BMW-20 20 pin for all three cars. Launch scanners used to use seven (at least) different 16 pin connectors, but have recently moved to a single "16-E" universal, so it could go either way.
But in reality, that all is moot. According to my info, all three cars use the 20 pin connector. Assuming the E32 can use E31 data, all three are covered by INPA. INPA is readily availabe for like $40.
Edit:
Interlocked posts. :) Looks like you got the answer on the 20 pin.I have a few Launchs. I tend to use Launch on my E36s and INPA on the E39. But at $40 vs $1500, I don't see where there's any question on where to start.

$40 does that include the cables and everything 'out the doors price? And will that give me access to everything? For ALL 3 of my cars? I do have a old desktop with windows 97 it also has a couple of other diagnostic software loaded on it cummins insite, vcads, etc. Does inpa give you the ability to do things like injector cut out, live data read, and full Bmw codes for all 3 of my cars. I currently have a Del on the 528i when I use my scanner to read it there is no code but will make a new thread for this problem

INPA is the factory tool that snuck out the back door. DIS is the dealer level tool, and is often included with the eBay INPA sets. Between them, every test and bidirectional control supported by the target computer will be available. But I don't think injector cutting is one of those. The Launch will not be able to do anything different, it will just be able to present the data differently. For instance, INPA has no graphing or recording capability built in, but that has been covered by other programs (free). Conversely, the Launch has no coding or programming capabilities. It claims to have a few, but when you try them you get a "not implement for this car" error.
$40 seems to be the current going price on eBay for the USB - 16 pin cable, the 16-20 pin adapter and a disk of software. I put mine together a few years back when things weren't so available ( ie soldering required), so I can't make any vendor recommendations.
