What is the "operating range" temperature of your coolant?

I have a realtime OBDii Edge Insight monitor and I want to compare the numbers I am getting running waterless coolant in my M62TU.

My operating range is 220F - 230F
The aux fan kicks on at 230F and the temp has never climbed over 232F

My cluster temp gauge sits perfectly in the middle throughout this range...so i am guessing thats what the ECU wants to see. But I am curious nonetheless.

Anyone else out there who monitors these numbers??

I am curious about any difference btwn my 0 pressure cooling system vs. regular 50/50 pressurized systems.

*btw - the Edge Insight is awesome if you want to monitor whats really happening with your motor and sensors. Very happy with it. I have it in my Diesel F250 as well...I think its designed for trucks, but it will read whatever your OBDii is spitting out to your ECU.

You could just use the cluster test 7 to monitor the temps. Normal range for a m62tu is 104-110 C (220-230F), it can go up to 113 C (235F) and it's still considered normal.

perf. thanks. my #'s are good. waterless coolant is officially a go.

cluster tests? sounds awesome.
i have never messed around with anything other than the oil/reset procedure on the cluster.

I am sure that there are a million threads on this...do you have a DIY link you'd recommend?

...does this procedure allow for monitoring in realtime the different data streams?
I am assuming it displays in the digital strip near the odometer?

thx

Here's (http://www.ideaphile.com/bmw/540-obc.html) a lot of info about it. It shows a lot cool stuff.

Are you using Evans NPG+? How thoroughly did you clear out the old coolant? It is my understanding that it doesn't take much of the old coolant to negate the corrosion inhibitors in Evans coolant(~3%).

Monitoring on my dash it runs between 104 and 106 celcius. The needLe moves to the center when the car is only at 75c so the gauge lies about it being warmed up already.

Putting in another coolant should not make your car run cooler. The thermostat controls the flow of cooling and runs the car at a very specific twmp for a reason. Putting in a highwr performance coolant should simply make it easier for the system to achieve that temp when its hot out. Basically the system will work less hard to keep the temp down in the appropriate range when its hot out. If you are not running close to 106c you have a thermostat issue even if your running cooler. Cooler is not better.

With NPG+ I see temps 108-110 C.
