I'm about to import music into my Idrive through the USB port in glovebox. I have a 2009 335i. Do I need to make sure I only have music files on the USB stick and do they all have to be in the root directory in order for it to work?

Also, I tried on a Kingston USB stick and I couldn't get it to work. I heard that some USB sticks are incompatible - maybe that one was. Trying a different stick today.

No and no. Unsure why a Kingston wouldn't work; you're 100% sure it was formatted FAT32 and not NTFS or HFS?

No I'm not. I'll check. Thanks for the help.

NP, good luck. Also ensure you're using a mainstream format like mp3 or such and not something not supported. I don't have a link handy but Google should find the BMW page listing supporting audio formats.

I have a similar problem. I have tried 3 different usb sticks and the car will not read any of them. I reformatted them all to FAT32 and even loaded just one single mp3 track and still no joy.
I then tried my WD passport drive and while the car recognises it, it will only see some songs and wont play them.
Any suggestions?
