They finally fixed/replaced my wife's engine.
The solution must have cost at least $15000. They also found two additional funny things:
The new engine does not ship with spark plugs.
It ships "dry" (no fluids)
It doesn't ship with a thermostat.

When driving the car in during the repair, the transmission refused to shift - went into failsafe mode - out of 3rd gear.

They found a faulty chafed wire in the tranmission housing - next to a bunch of other transmission wiring. They replaced the wire.

They want to charge me $50 deductible for that fix. That chafed wire may or may not have presented itself - I had driven the car for over 20K and nothing, the mechanic takes it out and whamo. This happened when the mechanic took it home and back (something that I allowed).

I don't want to pay the deductible and am not legally liable to pay it because a) it happened while the guy was driving it b) they never asked me if they needed to fix that wire once they found what the problem was.

DO I PAY THE DEDUCTIBLE????? It's the principle, not the money.

pros

New Engine
Only $50
Engine Oil - Pure synthetic
Free Coolant Flush
New Thermostat
New wire in Tranny
Loaner Car
Continuing Good Service
New Fix
Treated Well - All updates
Getting hood chip paint

cons
Faulty Engine - not my fault - already paid for the deductible
Principle
That's what it had in there already - previously paid through the nose for it.
A definite benefit for new coolant - but was it done during the Ins. II
Should have been part of the engine
Mechanic drove car home - don't know if this would have happened with me
I should be treated well I have two.
Treated me well but isn't that part of the service "guarantee"
Not legally liable
Always little $50 nips all the time.
I haven't had the car in 2 weeks!!!

were you not there paying a deductible to get service done anyway?

last I knew a deductible fixed all problems that popped up - not per problem

I had already paid the deductible originally when I took the car in to have it looked at.

Now, I have been told that I'm SUPPOSED to pay per problem!!!

If you're happy that they did a huge job for you, be gracious, pay the deductible.

In any case, bring a bottle of [your favorite alcoholic beverage] for the mechanic, festooned with a bow.

I didn't think about the bottle of wine or whatever!!!! Great idea...I'm going to pay the deductible...no problems there...who knows, I'll have some other problem and have to bring it back!:az:

Always happy to be of service :-)

Now that you've got this repair done perhaps you'll give the car a shakedown cruise to SF and we'll toast it together.

Looking forward to it. Heck, we can make it a mini SF meet.

You got a deal - but guess what!!!!

After I paid the deductible the Service Engine Soon light came on....faulty Oxygen sensor....thus...no car!!!!

I'm so grateful to the mechanic but I am about to lose my mind!

Argh!

I feel your pain :-|

Sounds like a house of cards. Well, whenever *this* gets fixed let me know. I got relatives coming and going, as my sister had her first child a few days ago, but we have windows of sanity in which to meet.

May the fix be with you, or somesuch.

Good luck.

Pay your bill and stop whining.
Not to long ago I replaced an M60 engine for a 740 owner who was out of warrenty by time and milage and he purchased the car after the warrenty had expired, We, the dealership when the extra mile for him and got the whole job good willed(covered). I replaced the short block and all the relevent gaskets and seals and cleaned the whole thing up nice and returned the car to him in excellent condition with all probloms corrected in a resonable amount of time with minimum inconvenience and the guy had the nerve to cry about the fluids that werent covered. Let me remind you he bought a used 740 way out of warrenty brings it to us and gets a clean new engine 5000$+ value for free and proceeds to bitch about 120$ miscelleanous fluids.

Now my side.

I bought this car for my wife for her to tote our two kiddos around. Safest friggin thing on the road. Bought it with CPO warranty!!!

I've had to go back to the dealer for:
Blown catalytic converter
Malfunctioning Sunroof
Malfunctioning Instrument Cluster
Two electronic gremlins - as yet unfixed.
Inspection II - where the dealer makes a cool 60% margin and probably 20-30% profit.
3 Synthetic Oil changes - where the dealer makes about 50% margin probably 10-20% profit.

Each time I've been treated with the utmost respect - I have no problem with anyone that has treated me.

My issue is:
I've had the car for almost 2 years - it has spent almost 3 months in the shop - hmmmm 15% downtime???? That's not 5 nine reliability there!

I've had to drive back and forth to find out why the car is sending another fault to the OBCII.

I'm tired, I don't have that much time on my hands. My wife is beginning to think we bought 6 different 325s, and the constant moving of stuff in and out of the car is becoming tiresome.

My parents - had a 'little' problem with their RX300 (Lexus) where the dealership held onto the vehicle for 3 weeks. Guess what their loaner car was - an RX300.

With that said, I still paid the dealer the deductible....sort of a good will gesture:az:
