OK, don't kill me, I looked in the archives and couldn't find anything. I only have one key for my car and it has no buttons on it at all. I would like to be able to use the keyless entry system that they all came with. Can someone point me in a direction to resolve this? Threads, dealers, aftermarket or ???
Thanks

They all didn't come with keyless entry. They are prewired for an factory alarm, but it was extra. You can also buy aftermarket keyless entry systems that plug into the factory wiring.

Despite what someone has told you, all BMW's did not come with a factory alarm/keyless. They came with the PREWIRING for a factory alarm, which was a dealer-installed option. To find out if your car has the dealer installed alarm, look under the hood for the bullhorn (megaphone looking thing). It'll either be just behind the passenger shock tower, or mounted behind the passenger headlight. Also, look at your center console forward of the shifter near your ASC/heated seats switches. Is there a red LED? Then you may have a factory alarm. If that's the case, you'll need to order a remote and program it. If you don't have either of those things (bullhorn/LED), then you don't have the alarm installed. At that point, just get one fron a local car stereo place.

simple:

A. Check to see if you have a system installed-
-red led by sunglasses holder
-siren (horn looking thing) under hood near pass. headlight
-(for sure method, pull glovebox and see if the brain is in there).

B. If none apparent:
-look in the trunk for a button on the left side carpet that says prewired for an alarm. If you're not prewired, it'll be a bit of a pain.

Thanks for this!!

This is my personal favorite :)

If you need an alarm system I have 3 of the three button control modules and harness that goes with it. It includes the LED and glass break sensor. All Three are tested in my own e36. I do not have any fobs for sale. You can easily find them on ebay for about $50. Ive been asking $100 shipped for the units I sell. Once again they are tested and gauranteed to work if you get the correct fob.

ebay is the easiest way. I never paid more than $45 for any of the dozen or so fobs I've purchased. You just have to be a bit patient.

DONT get a Subaru fob. They don't work.

Yes they do. Just go to ebay and type in the FCC ID number of the fob you're looking for.

I am thinking of going this route. It makes the most sense, it has the keyed remote(key needs to be cut). And cheap. Any thoughts??

My car came with an aftermarket keyless entry system. Turns out it was not wired to do a double lock. I found a DIY on how to wire up the double lock and now the keyless locks the gas tank door and more. :)

Here's the DIY:
