So I was driving home from work when all of a sudden I get a strong vibration out of the steering wheel. It get's worse and then I hear the power steering pump whining badly. I assume that's what I was feeling through the steering wheel. I was in a pinch and had to drive home. Within 5 miles I had completely lost all power steering. When I get home I check out the car. The PS fluid was right on the add mark. I filled it up and still no power steering. I check the pump and it is spinning freely and properly. I removed the reservoir cap and revved the engine. It doesn't look like the fluid is moving around at all. What could this be? Is it as simple as a bad power steering pump caused by my fluid being a bit low? could it be a clogged hose or reservoir filter?
Thanks

edit:If I rev the engine to 5-6k rpm the PS comes back. It also appears that there is a leak coming from somewhere around the pump.

You need a new pump if what you posted is accurate regarding the fluid.

Fly did you use a used pump? Miles? Or a new one? I can get a new LuK pump for $240, I've been looking into it since I think mine is pretty worn out it did some weird stuff when I first got it now its heavy.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the reservoir have a filter? Is it possible that the filter is clogged or a combination of the pump and filter? Reving the engine possibly forcing more pressure thus forcing fluid through the filter? As for the leaks, possibly just the clamps on the PS hoses.

Yes there is a filter built into the reservior.
