Problems seemingly started out of nowhere: cruising along one day and suddenly all of the warning lights lit up. Anything that could show red was Red.:devillook Then just like that they were gone. Problem happens intermittently then disappears (except for my heart- there was no degraded performance) The other day, the temp gauge stopped working. car was running fine so I wasn't too concerned. Welllll hell; two days ago the gauge pegged Red. So, I took it to an independent shop. Cooling system was working fine, thermostat was fine, swapped out the temp sensor without effect. The shop was stumped but suggested changing the instrument cluster ($975 plus labor). I politely declined and parked the car for several days (drove my 07 335I :D). a few minutes ago I started the M and the entire cluster was unresponsive :help! Any ideas? Did I mention that I love my M3, or am I being redundant? I'm just sayin....

Possibly a loose ground-wire, possibly alternator going out, least that's what mine is.

O.K. but tell me, is there a way to check for a malfunctioning alternator? Can you point me to the suspect ground wire? So I can check those? Thanks. Also, I'm seeing quite a few postings about cluster problems...with just as many potential solutions.
