MKIII to MKIV NAV upgrade question

I've been researching the navigation upgrades for our cars and I would like to clarity some confusion.

To upgrade from a existing mk3 navigation to mk4, all I need is the DVD gps unit in the trunk? The mk3 widescreen monitor can support it?
