Hi guys, I've been having problem with my E-brake (parking brake) which doesn't hold the car still.
Rear pads and rotors were replaced, my BMW mechanic adjusted it twice, still car roles after applying the brake, I asked about it in a different thread and somebody provided me an adjustment manual which was for cars with hand brake not foot parking brake.
Anyway the question is , since my house is up a drive way and car must be park in a 55 degree angel, every time I press the E-brake and shift the gear to P, next time when I am trying to shift it down to R or D it makes a horrible noise, is it ok to make that noise or as my mechanic suggest I need to replace the shoe brake etc?
Thank you

can you get a video for us so we can help determine the issue as best as we can, there are many types of different noises these cars can make..

Is it a screetching noise or a cowbell dingish sound? ive had experiences with both.

The parking pawl is holding your car on your driveway since the ebrake doesn't work, hence the banging when taken out of park. The noise is normal, but it can damage your parking pawl if you don't get the ebrake fixed...

I think the problem is because the parking brake doesn't fully work, when I put the car in P, the car roles a bit to the back , so next time it makes that noise, but if I park in a flat area, parking brake can hold the car so no noise after shifting from P to D or R. If it damages the car , I have to fix my parking brake which seems that needs a brake shoes, but if it not that important I will do some saving before replacing the brake shoes.
There are some good info in this thread too, wish I would have found it earlier

Mine is a massive cranking noise and it is due to failure of parking brake shoes,I have to change the control arm, then brake shoes and by then my car is due to service, these things keep coming , far out

check your tranny mounts, they could be wearing down. my 740 il made that noise,
had my mechanic change them and that was that. i still have no clue how they made the noise but they did.
