Broken cupholder?

My front piece slid out and I am trying to repair. Based on the TIS I just reinsert and slide gear to the left. Well not so easy. I removed the black bracket from the front piece and I see how the post fits in and slides over. But it is not very tight and I wonder if something is broken off the tip. I have attached a picture. I am thinking of glueing them together as I really don't want to replace the whole assembly.

Yes and yes. It's either broke or worn down, which is normal. Words such as glue, sting, rubber bands, etc. are also 'normal' on this subject.
