View Full Version : What does everyone pay for insurance??

I just got a quote for full coverage on all three of my cars. She quoted me $1309 for a year. That is $200 cheaper than what I am paying now. :buttrock

This is through Erie.

What about you guys??

$50/100 liability limits, uninsured motorists with $250 ded, comp and collision with $500 deductibles on the M3 = $1100 per year.

Base liability limits, no comp or collision on the bike is $86 per year.

Erie wanted over $2000 a year for the same coverage on the M3. I wonder how they figure this stuff out? I have no tickets, no accidents, no claims, I own a house, am 26 live in columbia and commute only 10 miles to work. WTF?

I have the second lowest limits, 50/150/50 I think, $250 comp., and $1000 collision and was paying nearly $4000/year. This is with Liberty Mutual, I have (had) a spotless driving record, no accidents or tickets, lived in the burbs of Fredneck, and was on my parents' policy with them for 4 years. I was getting pretty royally screwed and was about to change when I got into my accident.

Ironically, I hit a deer and my rates dropped to $2300/year. So if you have high rates, go hunt down Bambi. :D Actually, I turned 21 but I still think my rates are on the high side.

I think I may look into Erie, everyone I know who has them is getting such low rates.

About $1750/year for $250 ded, $100/$300k coverage with Erie.

Yeah, I was paying a lot too when I had my old 96 Accord. The funny thing about it was my insurance only went up $80 a year when I got my 325. I was only 23 at the time too. However, my insurance didn't really go down when I turned 25. I don't get it.

Oh well, $1300 a year for full coverage on all three cars sounds pretty good to me.:)

WTF-erie refused to insure me under the M3. They said they do not insure "high perf autos" and the M3 was one....

I went through them to get progressive, which was like 2200. When I went to Greece and took my plates off I went back to progressive (not going through erie) and it was only 1600 a year...

Hmmm, that's weird. When I told her that I am insuring my 325 and Prelude, she didn't mention anything about high performance vehicles.

I guess they let it pass since I am a responsible driver?:dunno

:D

A complete guess here on my part, but Erie's rates are super-low compared to the rest of the industry. Whereas my 328 is not considered a 'performance vehicle', the M3 is - thus, the M is more of a 'risk' because it's easier to drive fast, is statistically in more accidents, etc etc. They don't insure 'riskier' vehicles, which is how they keep everyone else's rates comparatively low.

In other words, if you limit your potential liability (you being Erie), then you limit the amount you have to set aside for when accidents DO occur.

Again, just a guess.

I have Erie too... they have two "tiers". Once you get into the upper tier, rates are mega cheap.

They wont insure a high performance vehicle especially if they dont have you on record for dricing one for a certain amount of time....

I was lucky that I was already in their upper tier when I got the Vette... I was only paying $800 / year

GreekM3

hmmmmm.........we have to be in their upper tier by now, we've had a LOT of policies with them for over 20 years.

I think our broker is a moron though....

It would be nearly $4000 / year if the car were under my name (17 year old male with one total loss at-fault accident in history!). But the car is insured with my 54-year-old mom as the primary driver so its only $1250 / year! Woot!

Hmm, that explains that. I called Erie the day after I bought the M. The rate they wanted was ridiculous. I'm not paying $2000+ per year to insure the damned thing.

Now that I've been insured with Progressive for a year and a half with the thing, I wonder if my rate will have dropped.

Actually, if you can save up for your car in only one Summer....I would say that is still poor. It should take you longer to save up for a RICH car. :D

just kidding. :)
