Anyone else running a Thule roof rack on their E92? I just scavenged Craigslist and managed to come up with fit kit 3039, a pair of Aeroblades, and a set of 460R feet all in really nice shape within a couple days. Just got the stuff test fit on the car and it seems like it sits high - that is, the little rubber fairing things don't actually touch the roof, there is a slight gap. Is this correct?

I tried to contact Thule support to see if I'd screwed something up, but apparently I'd created an account with them years ago when I bought a mess of stuff off Craigslist previously and had to order some little greebly spare parts to make everything work, and my login doesn't work anymore :( So I figured I would ask here and see if anyone had used this kit.

I chose to go Thule rather than BMW for my rack because even though the Thule stuff is way more expensive, I hate proprietary stuff and already have a big pile of Thule accessories in my storage locker.

Nahh, you don't have to explain yourself.I have ran a couple of roof racks on my 2007 E92 and they do the same. Im running the OEM factory sport bike rack and it sits higher than the frame of the roof. This is the way it should be....its so it doesn't bind or rub against the paint with added weight or turbulence when driving.

There should be a single piece that goes down into the pre-established roof mounts on the top that then allows about half an inch on clearance. The most important piece is the screws hold tight and tread the way they are suppose too. If the Thule frame isn't loose then you are on the right track.

Hope this helps

yes everything seemed to go together OK only thing I had to do was run a tap through the holes in the roof because the PO apparently never used the rack provision and there was a thick coat of paint on the threads. I just figured that the rubber would actually be compressed against the roof but if that's not how it's supposed to be I won't worry about it.

That's the way it's supposed to be, but I thought it looked "wrong", so I cut some black foam rubber and pushed under the plastic covers to fill the space.

Thule system works flawlessly. Once you get it fit to the car, removal and reattachment is a piece of cake.
