I just got this code from my peake tool, i have no idea what it means. Do I change the thermostat or the electrical connection on the water pump. Three random misfires 4. 8. And random cyl , O2 sensor 5-8, fuel trim additive 5-8
Wtf I just spent $1600 to get my car right man these E38 keep you working

Make sure your thermostat is not leaking at the sensor. It will fry the connector:

If you find it looks like that, make sure the coolant has not worked up the loom into the ebox. Common issue.

That's the electric heater in the thermostat. Need a new thermostat to get rid of that code.

Interesting. I have never read up on this before. So you ended up having to replace your thermostat here:

Yeah. I forget all the posts I make. I learned a lot about the thermostat from that one. I can watch the temp rise when I'm getting on the highway and then drop a good 10*C before going back up when I ease off the throttle to cruising.
I'd estimate a good 95+% of the time that code is just from a bum t-stat. I don't think the wiring thing is all that common, although I do read about it on the board on a rare occasion.

Agreed. I guess it would be better to say that when the thermostat does leak at the connection, it is not uncommon for it to work up the loom into the ebox. My parts car had a fried connection but nothing in the ebox. I had hoped it was the reason it would not start but ended up being bent valves.
