Navigation went out?

Well looks like my Nav display has flickered off for the last time. The radio still works, but it auto shuts off every five minutes or so and I have to push the power button off and on again.

My display is totally out, so I'm guessing it's the navigation console in the trunk. There's no lights powered on it.

I've been checking ebay and it's looks like this console is a bit pricey going for about 400 bucks. There's has to be someone needing to get rid of one for less on here.

Anyone else experience something like this?

You are correct, it sounds like it's your navigation computer. You first need to figure out if you have an MKII, MKIII or MKIV. MKII can be as cheap as $50.00 and are normally with a small screen navigation unit. MKIII was installed in the latter part of the 01 model year, was included with the wide screen navigation and I've seen them as cheap as $200. The MKIV wasn't included in the E38 at anytime, but is a plug and play upgrade. I've seen MKIV as cheap as $300 and IIRC there was a member on bimmerboard.com that was selling MKIV navigation computers at a great price on that for sale forum.
