I am guessing you did not do a search because there are about half a dozen threads about the pump/tstat in the last month or so with lots of details.

I picked up a Power Steering pump from the wrecker, tested and functional for 100 last week.
A new pump is about $400. What part of 700 in labour sounds right?

What does a power steering pump have to do with a water pump?

Not a thing.... Stewart High Performance water pump is 200. Unscrew the fan, take off the belt and the pump pulley and replace the pump.

belt? pulley? :confused You do know these cars have electric water pumps, right? They are expensive parts and supposedly hard to replace. Even at my dealer who has some of the lowest prices I saw anywhere around, it is close to 600 parts and labor.

Re-read the first post. He was not only quoted for a water pump. Thermostat is another $100+ at dealer list, plus coolant, plus 3 bolts. I believe that water pump is over $400 at dealer list as well.
Without an accurate break down, it sounds to me like he was quoted at 3-4 hours of labor depending on the hourly labor rate of the center.
335 water pumps are a pain. Much tighter then their 328 counterparts, and X drive makes the job that much tougher. 3 to 4 hours labor is very fair for that repair in a professional setting. Very fair.

yes 1100 to 1400 sounds about right for this job. It looks like its very common too, why dont they just extend the warranty like they did for the turbos and HPFP. I hope there will be a class action on this...

BMW has changed the waterpumps about 3 different times since they started using them in 06. but at 75k thats about the norm.

So youre implying the newer cars will have less of this issue?

I'm seeing it on just as many newer cars as older. Many of them still in CPO warranty
